Best Sat Navs for Canada
Hello all
I didnt bring my UK GPS navigation with me cuz it didnt have North American maps on it so I just gave it away for free with my car. Now I am looking to buy one here but there's so many on the market and its not very easy to decide which one to pick.
Does anyone know of some good models that come with useful features (for Canadian roads) and can last a few years?

I have a Garmin and it seems to work OK. It's ages old and we brought it to Canada with us and just uploaded North America onto an SD card. The GPS itself is years old, but the maps are up to date.

You could try a free app on your smart phone or tablet.
I have nav free on my ipad and I believe there is a Canadian version.

I haven't a clue what model mine is, it's about 5 years old so can't really recommend any but I would get one that has free lifetime map updates, looking online its only $30 for the lifetime maps compared to the same model without.
We were thinking about getting a new one actually as ours has a low memory and it can't be upgraded, with the new maps updates we can no long fit the whole of North America on any more and can only fit on Canada and the Border states. Might not be an issue but might be a consideration.

We have a Magellan, I don't really find it user friendly but Visions did have them for $38 and lifetime maps last weekend.

I have a Garmin. If you screw up it will recalculate your route for you rather than telling you to make a U turn which the Magellan does. I forget the model but it has a five inch screen and has lifetime map updates. It has worked well for me for several years now.

For $100 you can buy a Garmin with lifetime maps. Sounds pretty good to me.

If you can catch one at Canadian Tire when it is at 50% off (therefore $120 + tax), I would say this one, which has Traffic (RDS TMC version) if you are in major cities - Vancouver area (Fraser Valley from Hope to the coast and down to US border/up to Horseshoe Bay), GTA, Toronto and Montreal, as well as USA coverage:

I've got this and it works well.
Lifetime map updates are free with this one too.
Seems to be up-to-date and the TMC has kept me out of lots of jams in the lower mainland, or alternatively has proved to be correct when I have ignored it....
Occasionally on offer elsewhere too, such as Walmart.
