Best place to live in the GTA?
Hi,
I would like to know what peoples opinions are on areas in the GTA.
Please state what area you think is the best and why.
We have been looking to settle in Milton but that is not fixed so any responses would help us greatly.
Many thanks

If you want 'burb then the lakefront from Mississauga, the Lorne Park Estates area, around to Burlington, offers commutability and views. If you don't care for direct lake access then the Bridal Path area of North York offers some comfortably large houses.

You may want to state whether you want urban, rural, suburban, and what your price point is for housing and your job prospects.

To the OP, we need much more information to give you a meaningful answer. You might like Oakville, for example, but it wouldn't be a good choice if your job is in Whitby.

How about squishing into an apartment somewhere reasonable central and exploring from there. This might do for a shortish stay:

Hi,
Well we would like to be near schools & shopping. We would also like to be around industry so we do not have to travel to far to work.
Also areas with low crime.
Many thanks.

The areas with high crime are few and quickly eliminated. Schools and shopping are everywhere unless you value something specific, religious schools, ethnic food, something of the sort. I think you have to locate the job and work from there.

Sorry but that's still a little vague, the GTA covers a large area, do you have a job to go to, will you have a car or will you be relying on public transport? Do you prefer to live in a city or a small town or in the countryside??

There are schools and shopping everywhere.
What kind of industry? Auto assembly? Steel production? Petrochemical synthesis? Structural steel? Concrete? Pharmaceutical manufacturing? Electronic components?
The number of high crime areas in the GTA is small relative to the size of the place.
Seriously, you've been asking tons of questions but you've given us little to work with.

It would help to know what house price range is good for you. Some areas mentioned in other posts here are extremely expensive. As pointed out, the GTA covers a very large area with Toronto as the centre of a half circle with Aurora to the north, Hamilton/Burlington to the west and Oshawa to the east, and much conurbation in between. Some people on this site live rural and dislike sub-divisions/built-up areas with a passion. That is a lifestyle choice that is not practical or desirable for most. As dbd33 suggested, you would probably be better to centrally rent first until you get the lay of the land and a job. Job location would certainly be a strong factor in where you choose to live. Do you have any family/friends here in the Toronto environs? If so, perhaps you want to be close to them. It would take 1.5 hours to drive, in optimum conditions, from Oshawa in the east to Burlington in the west through the heaviest traffic in Canada.

In that name of all that's holy....who would pay $5,224.00 per month in maintenance fees?! Clearly people with more money than sense, but I still find it appalling.
