Taj Mahal is good, but certainly not British and IMO it's really expensive. I gave up and learned to do it myself so I believe the best curry in Halifax is at my house on a Friday night after the kids go to bed. :D

Re: Best curry in Halifax
Breath of fresh air - a thread for people who are able to adapt and find something comparable to the UK and make the best of it............:curse: sorry, I feel better now. Wont refer to the thread I am thinking of!
Tell us how it goes and what the prices were like, I love a good curry!!!!! We found that Atlantic do some great frozen curries - love them! Obviously not a patch on the real thing. I miss those good thick, uncqious (?sp) varying brown coloured curries of our days in Woking. Pre-kids we nearly only ever ate curry, mostly home ones of course. Anyway, update when able please! |
Re: Best curry in Halifax
Hi Paul,
Having recently attended both The Curry Village and The Taj Mahal here in Halifax, obviously for research purposes, I have to say that The Taj Mahal is far superior. Parking is free in the Superstore across the way too. Enjoy!! Patrick.

The wife and I are planning to go out for a curry tonight - which is the best place in Halifax for an authentically British curry? We cant decide between the Curry Village and Taj Mahal - anyone been? Are there others? |
Re: Best curry in Halifax
i remember going to the one near spring garden bout 5yrs back and it was a bit of a joke then, as far as i'm concerned -the canucks are a bit lightweightwhen it comes to hot food, esp in nova scotia i found
(hot wings being a wild night out) have only been to one curry house in Calgary (& it was packed) and was equally disappointed although i love the indian restaurants back in UK,can survive without them, always a great treat on return, ditto fish & chips i'd always thought it was British troops in the 1800's who added curry powder to their rancid meat to make it more palatable that was the starting point for our take on Indian food Carry on up the Khyber |

I'm sure that would be fine - the going rate is as many boxes of Twinings Assam tea as you can cram into your suitcase and a bottle of proper HP sauce! ;)

I had a nice one in The Bamboo Garden, near the Crowne Plaza hotel.

I like a mild curry, but the OH favours something that makes your eyeballs bleed. When can we expect you? |

Hoping to move to New Glasgow next summer.
I like to add sultanas or Golden raisins during cooking to mine. And sliced banana on the plate? Don't know about eyeballs bleeding but I once had a vindaloo that made me think someone had slit my lips with a razor. |

Anyone who is really worried about their curries can check out this website...
www.curryhouse.co.uk They take an age to make unfortunately but are pretty close to UK curry house curries. Last time I went back I bought Madhur Jaffrey's Ultimate Curry Bible http://www.amazon.co.uk/Madhur-Jaffr.../dp/0091874157 which I thoroughly recommend and is what I use every week for Friday supper... which is about now! |
