Best cities for Construction in Canada
I am in an awful fix-
I am an architecture graduate and my husband works with concrete construction, but we have both been laid off in Ireland and are looking to move to Canada on a 1 year visa (but hope to apply for sponsership, if all goes well over there).
Does anyone know what cities should we be looking into in terms of construction jobs? Getting jobs is our main priority, so it does not really matter to us how pretty the city is!
I have apent ages looking through other threads, but none seem to answer my question. I am aware there is a slowdown all over Canada, but it MUST be better than here!!
Thanks guys!!

Be careful before moving, make sure any job is going to be secure.
Construction jobs are slowing in Canada as well.
In December 44,000 jobs were lost in the construction sector.
"The large majority of full-time losses -- 44,300 -- came from construction across Canada, the sharpest monthly drop in that sector in more than 30 years."

Im getting scared now- Canada sounds a lot like Ireland did 6 months ago!
My hubbie was talking to a guy in Edmonton and he said that the construction companies were still hiring there, but I suppose things can change drastically between now and July.
Maybe I should look into Australia also!

As the pp's have said, it would be a big risk. There are several people on here who were out in Canada on TWP's (or were about to move out on a TWP, many of whom had sold their house, car, booked shipping, etc) and who have now been 'let go' - all of them are in the construction industry.
Just do a quick search of the forums and you'll find their posts.
Good luck, whatever you decide to do.

They've just been given a blank cheque to finish the Olympic preparations in Vancouver, might be worth seeing if they are looking for people. Should last at least another year.

Thanks guys for the replies. I think I'll give Canada a shot anyway- it cant be any worse than Ireland at the moment!
I think Ill head to the east- and try applying for architecture jobs in Vancover, Calgary and Edmonton and settle whereever (and if ever!) I get a job.

Well, best of luck with it. At least you've made a decision so can plan and go for it (preferably asap as Bunac visas are limited and applications opened in December so make sure you don't miss out!!).
