Default Belleville

Hi

Have already searched the forums but could not find anything really suitable so thought I would write a new thread.

My husband has some work in Belleville for a week in September probably.

Can anyone recommend any nice places to stay, probably looking for no more than $100-$125 per night.

I am going to tag along with our 20 month old. Are there any nice things that I can do with him alone.

Thanks

Sonia

I went to Belleview with my family when I was a kid (6-8 years old?) and have very fond memories of a park there. There was a petting zoo and a train to ride around on. I remember being very excited by this train. I thought it was the greatest thing! There were also little vending machines that sold handfulls of animal feed for a nickel. I remember eating the feed and thinking it was pretty tasty. This was all about 30 years ago and I think it was called the Belleville Zoo (but I don't think it was really a zoo, but a petting zoo... I remember many goats.). Not sure if it's still there! This was probably not helpful! Hope you have fun exploring though.

The Ramada is the nicest place in town, overlooking the bay. It has an indoor pool with water slide. Not sure of rates, but probably on the high end. Otherwise there are lots of other hotels (Best Western, Fairmount Inn, Various Motels) along the "Strip", or in the (sleepy) dowtown there is the Clarion Inn and Suites, probably more suited to a long term stay as they have kitchin units available.

There are also a few decent B&Bs. What kind of stuff are you looking to do? There is a good play group I could point you towards, and lots of other stuff. What kind of stuff would you want to do? PM me if you like. If you have transport there are nice beaches over on the county, and my kid enjoyed seing the lions and tigers...and especially the goats at the Bergerons animal sanctuary near Picton. If your kid is anything like mine she will just want to play in the park all day anyway if so I can point you in that direction.

If it is, they are keeping it a secret. Possibly something to do with Reids Family Dairy? I think they used to do that kind of thing. now they have the tacky red castle you see from the 401, they have some kind of "Loonie Ranch" with ducks and that...but weve never done anything but get ice cream at the drive through I guess we should check it out properly sometime soon...I could survive a small "Cherry Chocolate Heaven" if I had too!

Bowmanville has a zoo, with animal petting and vending machines for food pellets. It's also east of Toronto.

No problem. I'm pretty sure that Bowmanville Zoo is where my autistic daughter bit the goat. That turned the tables and startled the hell out of it.

Iain, noted your edit - do you have something you would like to share? Are congratulations in order?

Don't I know it - I have sat here constantly over the past few weeks wondering why in the hell we bought a hay farm! Finally decided after 3 days and 1,000 bales later to pay some people to stack for us! Did I feel any sympathy for them getting all hot and sweaty in our 40 degree barn? Yes I did......but not enough to help them!! Must be the absolute worst job in the world.

Cant think of any cottages in Belleville itself. Its a possibility further afield though , Oak Lake might be an option, I drive past (sort of) on the way to work, but its just changed hands I believe, so not sure whats going on there. Probably be getting a bit cool for fun in the lake by September anyway.
