We found the judges to be very fair, but certainly helpful and keen to guide us. We were representing ourselves, while the other side employed a lawyer.

Thanks. All we ever wanted was a fair outcome, but it was a long and stressful process.
I wouldn't recommend it unless the case is very straightforward and the amount significant enough to justify the time and worry.
It is practically easy and cheap, though, so it is a viable option.
