Hello!

We are going to rent the stereotypical Mustang and drive around BC for a week.

At the moment we are looking at probably going from Vancouver to Osoyoos and then out east as far as Kimberly, before swinging north to Golden and looping back westwards to Kelowna and then home.

Can anyone advise on any 'must see, must do' places on the way? Thanks for any and all recommendations (inclusive of where to rent the moostang!)

Opposite the ski resort in Manning Park there is a small road that heads north. It is closed in the winter, but if it is open follow it up to the top. On a clear day the views back over the Cascade Mountains are stupendous.

Just east of Osoyoos is the Nk'Mip winery. Their white Pinot is worth a taste and from the tasting room there are lovely views back over Osoyoos and the lake. You are only about five hours from Vancouver but if you did decide to overnight here the Holiday Inn is right on the lake.

It is also worth a diversion to Nelson, probably the most attractive town in the BC interior. It is nine to ten hours from Vancouver so if you have not stopped yet it is an excellent break point. I have used the Best Western for an overnight stay several times and it is exactly what you expect from a Best Western. It is conveniently at one end of the main street so you can wander up and sample the local brew and the aroma of medicinal herbs on the breeze.

From here you have the option of heading south and rejoining the Crowsnest Hwy at Salmo for the Kootenay pass or you can take the ferry across Kootenay Lake (the longest free ferry crossing in North America, so they say) and rejoin the highway at Creston.

We're doing a similar trip at the moment.Picked up a Dodge Challenger from Calgary Airport yesterday and are now in Kamloops,based here until Monday but will be doing a few trips.

blaady car rental companies..... their best cars seem to be at airport branches, but they wont rent to you unless you are 'deplaning'!?

Stop for produce at the road-side fruit stands in Creston.
The town of Kaslo is well worth a detour to visit (if you're heading that way).
Nk'Mip is a lovely Osoyoos winery. Drop by the Desert Centre in Osoyoos as well - Canada's only desert!

Lots of vineyards if you like that sort of thing.

Not sure I would head that way just for this near Golden, but it was a nice enough stop en route to Rockies.

Osoyoos.

Creston is always a good stop,cherries and a tour of the brewery maybe.Could be worth a trip to Fernie and Frank slide,very impressive in a strange way .

If you want somewhere to stay near Osoyoos, I'd recommend Arosa Guest Ranch in Bridesville which is just to the east of Osoyoos. (http://arosaranch.com) - it's in a lovely setting with some great views over the surrounding countryside. It also has a small camp site there which is where we stayed in the summer and it was the best site we stayed at on our trip. The couple that run it were really friendly and the actual house was beautiful.

We were impressed by the hot pools at Crazy Creek near Revelstoke. They have two hot pools of slightly varying temperatures, a cool pool and a very cold plunge pool. When we went, it was a nice hot day and we spent a fair bit of time there as it was fairly quiet and they have loungers all around the pools. TBH, I wouldn't recommend the waterfall across the road. Although nice, they charge a fortune for the privilege of walking across a suspension bridge in order to get a good view of them, especially when you bear in mind you can visit most other waterfalls in the region for free.

I agree that Nelson is nice, worth a visit and we also did the 40 minute ferry ride across Kootenay Lake too, staying at Crawford Bay on the east side. Again, we camped, but they had cabins there to rent that looked OK too - Kokanee cabins. The kids enjoyed the hot tub there! LOL

Hope you don't mind but I wanted to ask you a question, I see you have quite a fair few posts about how your life in BC is turning out I'm due to be moving next january 2013 and aim to move to BC, I will be moving alone. I do not have arranged employment as I am a nurse and will need to do a few college courses first to get me up to scratch. My question to you is where in BC could I find some affordable rental apartments? In a safe area? I'm just looking for something 1 bedroomed...Im a bit worried I won't find anywhere to live I will also need to get just a simple 'survival' job to just help me get a bit more money and canadian work exp when I move there...its both exciting yet scarey at the same time...

Hope you can give me some advice please?
