Just thought i would let you know that if any of you come over on a work permit and get (MSP) BC Medical cover after your 3 months. When you get PR status make sure you let them know!!

I had a call from the specialist i went to see in August saying there is a query on my payments and that BC Medical (MSP) won't cover the bill . I was a bit shocked as i have been paying through online banking. I rang MSP today and they said i didn't let them know i was staying. When were they going to tell me i had to tell them?? no letter or anything (kept sending the bill though!)

Anyway now i have to photocopy PR cards and fax them to them to get this resolved. So its all sorted now...

They actually send you a letter when you first enrol stating you need to send them proof of renewal of eligibility. It is just not very clear.

Can I ask you Poll72000, were you covered by BC Medicare on your work permit? I am interested because I will be on a work permit while my PR is going through and I am looking into health coverage. It would be good to know that after three months I would be covered. Can you let me know if this is the case? I know I could find out through more offical sources, but this is the easiest first step, I think! Thanks.

Yes we were covered after 3 months. We were in the same position (work permit while PR going through) You just need to get some cover during the three months. We didn't though just chanced it and it all worked out fine.

As far as I know - if you come over on the BUNAC scheme you will not get MSP!

ClareBC--if you look at this again, can you tell me what the BUNAC scheme is?? I am pretty new at all this immigration stuff and don't recognise that term. Thanks!
