It will be interesting to see if they charge for the service and whether it is cheaper to pay for a VPN service (e.g. consult here) or pay the Iplayer fee directly to the Beeb. Good news though.

I think I'd be happy to pay and rely on the BBC.

Me too. I'd much rather the BBC have my cash even it's quite a bit more. I only use a VPN because the BBC don't give me a way of paying them, so this is good news.

The original Telegraph article (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/n...l-iPlayer.html) hints that they don't know whether they will go ad or revenue based yet. But from the article, it states "It is estimated that global audiences would pay up to $10 for an episode of its most popular shows. "

I really hope that's a typo - maybe per month or per series, but definitely not per episode!

It's not a typo. The BBC really do expect people who currently pay $0 per episode to start paying $10 per eipsode. Like I said in another thread, if they charge 50c an episode they could make billions globally, and fast.

I think I'll stick with downloading the programs from Usenet Newsgroups free and watch them on my TV rather than the computer.

Its up to $10. maybe they could get that for FA cup final and other one off events.

Maybe. I would happily pay the full licence fee for full digital access over the internet, and so would millions of other expats around the world and even more non-Brits. Cannot see why they are so slow on this, especially considering their financial woes.

I'd pay a premium on the licence fee, but it would have to be subscription based. If they've got any sense they'll do both subscription and pay-per-episode pricing models.

I remember paying $10 for an England rugby stream from the world cup on Setanta, while it was $25 PPV on Setanta TV.

Same here BUT it will be so annoying when they announce that parts of the i-player's content are still not available to non-UK because of 'rights issues' like sports events/highlights etc.

I doubt that any VPN "solutions" will be allowed after the global iplayer service is rolled out. My hope is that the content of the global iplayer will closely match what is shown domestically, since the offerings on BBC America etc are pretty woeful and many years behind what has been shown in the UK.
