Hi everyone

Can anyone clarify the scheme in Canada. My understanding is that $100k is protected by the government in major banks (per account).

If I had an account in joint names, and also an account in just my name (both at HSBC Canada), then there is a total of up to $200k guaranteed there.

I think I've read it right, but please let me know if I'm mistaken.

It's all getting much closer for us now, slow process but still very exciting!

Note Credit Unions are not insured under CDIC, they have their own. I.e. Vancity, accounts are insured to any amount.

This is provincial. The BC government underwrites credit unions and in 2008 (or was it 2009) they removed the $100k limit cos credit crunch.
