WISH YOU ALL A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR.
hi will be in Banff by the start of the first week of the feb to work in Banff spring hotel fairmont as a chef, i qualify as skilled labour under the point system of Canada and also i have more than 48 months of experirnce and i have done a 3 year diploma in hotel management, right now i have got LMO only for 1 year, i want to know will it be easy for me to extend my work permit beyond 1 year given the circumstances that i fully qualify as a skilled labour.
Also i will be glad if some one will be able to give me some information on Banff town and the life style and different activities, etc....

Although it is written more from a tourist's point of view than a resident's point of view, I also recommend the TripAdvisor web pages called Inside Banff National Park and Inside Banff (meaning Banff townsite). The page entitled Banff Link and Learn has links to relevant websites, such as Crag and Canyon (Banff's newspaper), Banff Life, YWCA Banff, and others.

Apart from the party atmosphere, there is also a large amount of outdoor activities in the Bow Valley and of course at this time of year it is mainly skiing with several resorts easily accessible from Banff. In the spring and summer there is hiking, climbing, biking, rafting etc etc. Finally, the scenery is breath taking, I have been vacationing here for 12 years and now living here for 5 months and I still can't stop looking at the mountains!

It's real perdy!

Actually I knew a young girl who came to Banff Springs hotel on a BUNAC visa. She left in less than 4 weeks cos she was homesick!
Maybe she was just a little too young, and came from a very sheltered background, but it struck me as a bit wimpy nevertheless!
She did say the hotel was lovely and the people were friendly though ... she wasn't complaining about that ... just missed "home".

Hi
Just wanted to say that my experience of Banff was fab, its a beautiful place, and u have the hot springs just up from the hotel to go lounge in when you like. I remember on my visit that a lot of the shops were run by people who had evidently emigrated themselves to the area. The whole place seemed very laid back and easy going, fantastic place.
The Banff springs hotel is wonderful, just watch yourself if u try and take a close look in the jewellery shop on the ground floor, they keep the glass so clean you don't notice it (at least my cousin didn't and headbutted the window!) very funny indeed!!
Congratulations on your success, I hope everything works out for you.

Apply for permanent residence once you get here. Milk it fopr all its worth as we all know that your trade is much in demand. I know this is possible as a friend from Scotland did this. You may well get extentions with supporting letters from your employer until they sort it out (it can take years)
You could also consider marrying a Canadian gal! But of course that would be so - unCanadian, right?
Good luck

Oh Yeah,
Having just read some of the other threads, I though I'd just add ...
BANFF ROCKS!
You're going to love this place I tell you!
I love going there regularly from Calgary. Each season brings it's own magic!
