Re: Baked Beans
Here in Edmonton we are lucky enough to have a British Shop that stocks UK Heinz baked beans.
We have been told that Heinz beans in Canada have molasses in, which is why it tastes so different. I think it's the same with spaghetti. Linda |

Re: Baked Beans
What is the problem with not being able to buy Heinz Beans in Canada? They changed the frickin Recipe (along with 99% of there other products) about 18 months ago and you're still buying the damn things. :D

Re: Baked Beans
Hey JC, how you doing? there is a british shop in West Ed Mall, I think its somewhere near the Bay on the second floor (hardley narrows it down in west ed I know!) its only small but it has all the essentials...walkers crisps, Hula hoops, marmite,PG Tips, proper chocolate bars etc, etc, and even a frozen section with black pud'n and aunt bessie's yorkshire puds. Didn't really stick around long enough to look for the pataks stuff but you never know you might be in luck. I know we went on a misssion for some naan bread on our last visit in Jan and scoured the length and breadth of Beaumont Extra Foods only to come to the sad realization that Curry Nghts might never be the same again... :( ...oh well, whats that sleemans stuff you always rave about??? I'm pretty sure that'll take the pain away!

Sleemans do a cracking range of ales and lagers but for me it has to be the Honey...mmmm  Got a nice sweetness to it. I was a definite lager'n'lime fan "back home" but don't need to bother with the old Roses now - and at nearly $5 a bottle anyway, jeez I had to find an alternative!! LOL Tonight, I'm on hubby's homebrew Cabernet Sauvignon and it tastes superb  |

I'm seeing the Madras, Mild, Vinda, Rogan & Biryani's, oh and the Tandoori but have resigned myself to not seeing my beloved Balti (for all you Balti addicts, try making it using fresh skinned tomatoes and adding a small carton of fresh cream and chopped, fresh coriander at the end....I swear it is HEAVEN :D ) Like I just said to Ralstne, I've sent Pataks.ca an email to see what the crack is for us here in AB - I promise, you will be the first to know what they say Hope you enjoyed Okotoks, be in touch this week :) Jaycee :) |
Okotoks????
Piff how could you??
Firstly you live in Red Deer (OMG) Secondly you visit Okotoks of all places (OMGx2) Thirdly you dont even call in to see us (phew that was close ;) ) Butch |
Re: Baked Beans
LOL the beans thing is funny - used to hate them when I first came here. Then when I went back to the UK and had the 'old' version, I found them SO bland by comparison. It's the molasses that does it! Darwin's theory is true, I think! :D
Beans, beans, the musical fruit The more you eat, the more you toot The more you toot, the better you feel, so eat them every meal! |
