Good evening everybody.
We're leaving for Toronto in a few weeks so I'll probably be asking a few questions in the near future.
My question right now is when you purchase a one way ticket to emigrate, do airlines give you a larger baggage allowance?
Thanks all.....

When I emigrated my choice of airline was to a large extent driven by their excess baggage fees; there were two or three airlines with similar ticket prices but the baggage limits and excess fees were substantially different.
Geez, that was almost five years ago now. I still remember turning up at the airport with my shiny visa and hoping they'd actually let me on the plane with a one-way ticket

If you look at Air Transat/Canadian Affair flights, I would consider the Premium/Club upgrade as that gives extra luggage allowance in both hand and hold luggage.
If you want to have some items shipped and available sooner than items via sea. You could consider sending some items via air cargo service which can be as cheap as £1.50 per kg (depending upon airline/cargo company) and could be available soon after you arrive subject to time in customs.

Just a heads up to check the price of a return ticket as well as a one way - a return is often cheaper if using a non-charter airline e.g. BA/Air Canada.

We just had to get a one-way tickets ASAP, with 48 hours notice we got Montreal - Gatwick for $326/each from a charter or we could have paid $1150/each from a scheduled.

We upgraded to clubclass with Airtransat for flight ( one way ) to Calgary landing 21st June. 40kg each check in baggage. Had a call from Canadian affair that we have now been downgraded to economy. We have been promised that we still have all allowances as if we are still clubclass, inc weight allowance. Just got our travel itinerary which states 25kg each! Dont want to turn up at Manchester Airport with 40kgs each and have to pay excess.

If we make a major change to your travel arrangements or cancel your flight, we will inform you as soon as reasonably possible if there is time before your departure. You will have the choice of either accepting the change of arrangements, accepting an offer of alternative flights of comparable standard from us if available (we will refund any price difference if the alternative is of a lower value), or cancelling your booking and receiving a full refund of all monies paid.

I have been in touch today. We have been given a refund of the price difference and still get the same treatment as if we were in clubclass, baggage weight, drinks, everything really! So as long as they keep their word on that we will be happy. We want to get into the landing process asap so did not want alternative flights, also to be there in time for Stampede.

get that in writing so you can wave it at the smarmy git trying to charge you for 17kgs each extra baggage at the airport. i got stung £650 for XS baggage, would have been cheaper to bin the lot and get brand new stuff in canada. ( which i will be doing next time i emigrate!) sometimes tho they will let you off a kg or two if you tell them you are emigrating.
NOTE air transat ahve dropped their standard baggage allowance from 25kg to 23. so, good to know when you are packing!

Also, with a return you'll probably have to pay staggering amounts of money to the British government for fees, duty and taxes on the return half even if you don't use it. When I emigrated in 2007 I considered buying a return since it wasn't much more and I might use the return half one day, but it became a couple of hundred extra once the government took their cut.

Additional Pieces
£65/€80 per piece for the first additional piece according to the permitted limit by class

I'm going on a return ticket as I already had that booked due to planning a week holiday at this time anyway prior to having the PR approved. Fortunately it was only £280
