In my case; perfectly happy with UK life. Saw job posting, wanted to experience another part of the world, drive a full-size truck, nothing tying me down, 2 year work permit.

Now assessing whether I want to stay or go.

Husband was offered a job out here, more money and better prospects than the one in the UK. They gave me a job too, also for more money than the one I left, they paid all our moving expenses, gave us a house and car for 6 months on arrival plus a substantial 'settling in' allowance. Why would we not?

That's fantastic, good for you, that should go some way to compensate you for moving to Ontario.

I'm headed back to the UK for a visit in 3 weeks, it'll be my first visit since I moved here 10 years ago  I've always been a bit afraid that when I go back I'll REALLY love it there & won't want to come back ... suppose I'll know more in a month :o:unsure:

you could put that label on Canada, so its 'pick the one you feel at home with that meets your needs' - snobs need not apply

Just remember to keep paying the yearly 'National Insurance class 2 voluntary contributions' so that you'll have a few extra Bob when you are OAP age

Well, whatever you feel on your visit (good or bad) it's not necessarily the same as actually moving. Which was the OP's very point when she started the thread.

The last extended visited I did was great. I went back at the beginning of June and didn't leave until the second week of Oct. I was there mainly to oversee the renovation of a property but I tbh, I spent most the time, sailing, going down the pub and visiting friends and colleagues. I even took in a couple of festivals for old time's sake. It was great, I bought a little van at the beginning of my trip and sold it for the same amount when I left. It just cost me five months insurance. If I hadn't been teaching that quarter, I wouldn't have come back until after Christmas.

i moved for sex. But as it turned out, Vancouver is wayhundred times better than NZ in lots of ways.

If the sex had been in, say, Regina. Well, then I don't know if it would have been worth staying for that.

Hi Manchester,

Just wondered what made you move back to the UK? I can understand you wanting to return, but think about your reasons to return. Must've been a good motivator. For me I came back to see my young adult kids. Thought of staying on in the UK, but knew I'd return to Canada. It'll be about a year in the UK when I plan to head back to Canada. 9 months for you? I guess you built up the realisation you'd like to return. For sure as many have said on this site, people ping pong lots.
I find the UK crowded with a kind of dullness can't explain. But many nice areas too. Have relatives in Manchester, they like it. Lots of gigs and events.
Anyway, a hotbed of opinions on here about UK /Canada good /bad points. I did notice in Canada, it was difficult to make good, long term friends. People have bright surface friendliness but don't take the road of deeper friendship with regular meet ups etc. Anyway that's aside, wishing you the Very Best on plans to return.

Weird but interesting. Anyway, after a rather messy night out last Saturday where I apparently snogged the party host's wife in the kitchen, I've given up alcohol for foreseeable future so I'm only drinking lager now.
