Bachelor of Education - One Year Programme
Hi - Fiona's husband here.
I have been reading the threads on Ontario Teachers College and wonder if anyone can offer advice with my query.
I have a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and was thinking of applying for the BEd one year programme (Primary/ Junior) at Queens University in Kingston. I have about 16 years teaching experience with children but not in a primary school only in sports specific areas.
Assuming I am successful in my application, what else is involved after graduating? Do I need to then wait for a licence before I can apply for jobs? How long does this take? Do I need to do another course, as I do not have Primary/ Junior school experience? Does anyone know the timescale from start to finish before I would be ready to apply for jobs in schools?
Does anyone have a positive experience of this route?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, your best advice would probably come from the institutions concered.
The College of Teachers hasn't much to do really, and the ladies there should be able to answer questions. Canadians like their telephones - I read they are the greatest phone talkers in the world! - so a phone call to the 'College'
might be an idea.
When I went to FEUT about 20 years ago (there was no Coll of Teachers then) I was hired fairly quickly after graduation. In fact, one school tried to hire me before I graduated, but was told they couldn't do that.
I'm not a Ctholic, but were I to repeat the Teachers' College studies again (Ugh!) I would go to a Catholic church a few times, stand on the priest's toes so he would remember me when I later asked him for a letter if reference! and do the few religious courses. I figure that would double one's chances of getting hired!
I would imagine that you woujd be ready to teach in the September - the beginning of the school year - following your course of studies.
Canadians like their pieces of paper so you have to make sure you dot your i's
and cross your t's on every form.
