Baby - return to the UK

Hi all, just looking for some advice please. I am pregnant, baby is due in July. I'm in Canada as I have PR. I am thinking of coming back to the UK in September (when the baby has a Canadian passport) and I am wondering how the baby can travel back with me to the UK? I am thinking of staying in the UK for 6 months or so. Would the baby need a visa or ETA to return to the UK with me?

Thanks,

As a Canadian passport holder then the baby can stay up to six months as a visitor visa-free but I would advise obtaining a British passport for him or her as well if eligible in case of a medical issue so you won’t be liable for any potential costs.

Hi both, thank you for your replies. I will apply for the British Passport for the baby.
What happens if I stay longer than 6 months?

Thanks,

Assuming you're a UK citizen (you've not actually said), then you can stay as long as you like in the UK. Just be mindful of your residency obligations for maintaining PR status in Canada.

HTH.

HTH.

Also healthcare residency in Canada. OHIP cuts off if you're gone more than six months in twelve.

Yes, I am a UK citizen (born and bred) and I hold a valid British passport.
I am likely to return to Canada within the six months but I just wanted to check.
Will the baby automatically have dual citizenship for both countries?
