I have just booked flights to NS with Air Canada and bought return flights because they were cheaper than single
Not sure if Zoom would work out cheaper or not. Give it a try online. I was able to book my return up to 11 months in advance and chose October because if we plan a short break back to UK we could return to NS with Zoom before they stop the NS flights for the winter period. If we don't use the return, then no money lost

But some airlines, particularly UK charters, insist on a return ticket if you don't have a Canadian passport or Canadian PR card. That's their rules, nothing to do with CIC. Check with BA, I haven't ever flown one-way with them but I'm sure they'd be sensible about it with a work permit in your hand.

BA will let you do it, but will charge you the earth. The only one-way tickets they will sell you (and I checked this with the web, a travel agent and the BA call centre) are the "very flexible" ones which are open and can be changed etc. Therefore one-way to Calgary from London was over £8,000 for a family of four. However a normal return will set you back around £2,500 for a family of four. So we will be going return and not using the second flight.
Absolute madness, but them be the rules!
