An example for Toronto
Rent in a 1 Bed High Rise around College (10 mins from Downtown) - $1100
Utilities - $150-200
TV, Internet and Phone - $100
Grocerys $250-350 depending what you eat/where you shop
Car insurance (First time in Canada) $250
Cell Phone (smart phone) - $70
this is just an example, other areas in T.O could be alot more/less

How many of you though? The figures above are (I'm guessing from the look of them) for a single person, it will be very different if you are a family of 6!
There is a Wiki article about cost of living in Canada, and also soooooo many previous threads with figures on, so have a hunt for those.
I will move this thread to the correct part of the forum where hopefully you'll get more responses from those in Toronto.

Ps $150 per week if you want booze and like to eat nice stuff ...

What about parking?
Groceries more like $150-$200 per week.
I think the rent in the downtown area is probably okay but budget more like $1,500.

Hi,
I'm a single young woman living in Toronto for a few months now (I moved from London) and here are my living costs:
Rent -$550 living in the Chinatown area of downtown, in a two bed shared apartment
Car insurance - N/A as I don't have one but I've heard it's a lot more expensive than in England
Utilities, gas, water, house insurance, tv package - All included in my rent
Food costs - on a strict budget about $30 per week
I have a pretty good deal with my rent as everything's included and the location's perfect.
One thing I have found is that whilst rent is cheaper in Toronto, food certainly isn't. I'm fortunate to live near Kensington Market where all the fruits and veggies are pretty cheap, but stuff I need to buy from a supermarket (milk, pasta, all the other essentials) is pretty expensive.
This is probably because I live downtown and am not near any of the bargain supermarkets, but it still hurts the wallet!

A big bag of milk, like three 1ltr bags in one is 5.50 ish in dollars but in gbp that would be 4.25 ish £1.50 for a litre of milk aint far off, is it? Was a quid n a bit three to four years ago
