Mmm, and the reply would be: "Yes Mum, I would." followed swiftly by: "Cheeky wee besom, do you want me to take my hand off your face?" Funnily enough, I never took Mum up on that particular offer.

Last I heard salmon had returned ... I can certainly remember a cormorant living near "the toon" (downtown doesn't sound right) ... destroying the city's livelihood has certainly reaped huge environmental benefits ;)

Way to go Mags & Bliar ... *not*

Dawnwynne - I don't think you were putting your foot in it with your previous post. If I have to take a different approach to getting a job in Canada, then that's fine with me. Like I said previously it took me a year to get a job here with loads of rejections, so I can be just as tenacious in Canada ;)

Put one on the bar for me too please!

 one for you.... one for me...I feel a hangover comin' on already

Maybe we should organise a club for Stubborn Hardheaded Individuals Tenaciously Searching?

I'll let you work out the acronym :D

oh that really does deserve a double

Didn't the Mersey catch fire some time ago?

Dont remember that. I know the one in Cleveland (OH) caught fire...several times! :scared: so it could have happened, who knows.

Can't comment on the Mersey but the Clyde has improved dramatically in the last decade. You only need single-figure immunisation after they've fished you out. :D

Seriously though, you can supposedly catch salmon once again: Two-headed salmon I grant you but that's a minor point.

Are you heading to Ontario? I hear they don't use fish finders in Lake Ontario anymore ... geiger counters are much more effective ...

Why bother with the electronics when you can see the fish glow in the dark? That way you can knock them out by lobbing (dawnwynne - a nice Glasgow word : it means throwing) a brick at them ;)

By the way: do topics always end up flying off into the outfield like this one so obviously has?

Yeah, had a look at it last July when my fiancee and I were over. We went for a walk down by the beaches and then out to the Islands. I thought it was funny that no one was swimming when it was a gorgeous sunny day. Even the dogs ignored their toys that were thrown in!

At least we have lakes :p Really its the e-coli you need to worry about more than any alleged radioactivity. The ontario environment ministry has a website devoted to telling you how many fish its safe to eat from which lakes! Tells its own story.
