We just opened a new account with Scotia Bank, its a special deal for newcomers, comes with a $1000.00 unsecured credit card, free safety deposit box, I think free banking for a period etc....

We were also offered a line of credit / mortgage of 65% house value.

They were very helpful indeed, I'd certainly recommend them.

Hi!

It is such an exciting/scary time isnt it! If you wanted to have a chat on the phone about some of your questions I would be happy to give you a call! Just send me a message with your details.

We moved here sept 2009 so just about getting the hang of things now!

Maybe times have changed and banks are more hesitant to lend. I must admit even the bank account managers were surprised as they were confident it would go through.

It could also be random. Myself and wife got SIN numbers and then straight to Rodgers store. Neither any history here. My credit check said I could have one line if I left $200 deposit. My wife could have 3 lines with no deposit. Go figure.
