Default Arrived in Calgary & warning about pets

Hi All
We arrived last Sunday after a stressful week of goodbyes and packing & re-packing our overweight cases. We went premium with canadian affair & were about 7-10kg over weight, but luckily got away without charges. Sunday morning getting to the airport was dreadful as I was so stressed & upset, mainly due to leaving my dog at cargo in a crate. I cried for a few hours & couldn't speak to anyone for ages. I eventually settled on the plane, however when we got to Calgary they were shuttling my dog back & forth from customs to cargo because someone had lost his paperwork. I was distraught. Luckily I had photocopied everything & was able to produce copies, & my dog was released about 2 hours after we landed. he was distressed but is o.k. now. (spent 15 hrs+ in his crate)So WARNING to all those taking pets, PHOTOCOPY ALL PAPERWORK.
We are settled now & enjoying the brilliant weather!

i can't cope with any of this....i'm such a strong person in everyway, apart from 'pets'.....i've decided to leave our beloved dog here as all of the above scares the pants off me and i just can't cope with all the stress 'possibly' being caused to my dog....my very lovely sister in law is having our jack, and i know that he'll be truley loved as much as we do.......so well done to you and your lovley pouch.....cyber hugs for being strong x

Welcome - glad your survived the goodbyes.

I'm sure your dog will get over the stress as long as he's with you. Ours suffered at the hands of air canada, they forgot they had taken a Jass flight off so when he landed in Calgary instead of flying straight to Regina he had to say overnight in a kennels and fly on the following day. He had is 1st Canniversary this week and has settled really well.

Im pooping my pants ref our dog!

Our pet travel agent is dealing with getting him to the airport but he will be on the same flight as us on 19th November - I wanted to book him in on the same flight as us (Airtransat) but they said they do not take pets (yet Pet Travel Agents can book spaces- wierd eh!).

Im having nightmares that when we stop at Calgary to drop people off - they will take him off the plane! Im going to be watching those cargo men with hawk eyes I can tell you!. Im also stressing about the 2 take off and 2 landings and whether Immigration will let us through - if not leaving him there! I suffer from IBS and its no wonder that today I have had the worse bout since I got married 14 years ago. eeek. I get it when I go on holiday too and my OH has already said "you're homesick already".

Thanks OP for the heads up with paperwork - great idea...I'll copy everything for safetys sake.

I can't wait to touch canadian soil I can tell you - the goodbyes are going to be awful....im going to make kleenex a fortune!

Yes make sure you copy all paperwork. Our agent said there is no need to do that but luckily I did. Also when we were on the plane I kept asking the flight attendants to remind the pilot that our dog was in the hold, if you do that they should make sure he stays on for your onward flight. I am sure he will be o.k., as others have not reported problems, I was just unlucky witht the paperwork. Good luck

Our dog suffered 17 hours in her crate. She came out quite timid and worried. For a few days she followed us around and would not settle down unless we were in the room with her however we have just celebrated our first Canniversary and she is lying here in her bed completely relaxed.

Yes ours was the same, we didn't leave him alone for the first 2 days as he looked worried. He is now settled & happy. He did not come to any harm & I am definitely pleased he is here with us. Dogs forget most things quickly.
