I have seen a few LMO jobs that I would like to apply for, the problem is I still stay in the UK. Is it worthwhile applying for an LMO job whilst I stay in the UK or do I need to be in Canada?
Thanks

There are no LMO jobs anymore, a job requires a LMIA. You have to find an employer willing to shell out the $1000 to apply for a LMIA for you, unless they have some pre approved for some specific jobs.
Nobody can tell you whether it is better to come her or apply from the UK. You will only find out when you try. It is likely worth trying from there first, if no joy, come to Canada as a visitor and try.

Your chances depend on the sector you are working in.
Construction sector employers will undoubtedly still 'do' the LMIA process, because they just can't get the suitably qualified and experienced staff over here, Alberta oil crisis or no Alberta oil crisis.
Other than 'importing' foreign staff, the only other two main sources of new recruits are college leavers and poaching staff off other companies.
Relocation expenses contributions are often available eg around $10k, so the extra $1000 for the LMIA is fairly inconsequential.
Look at most construction employer's websites and they have rolling advertisements for qualified staff. These are to satisfy the LMIA requirements for advertising.
I would assume that other high-demand sectors are similar.

Being pedantic too, I didn't say these were the ONLY thing they have to do to satisfy the requirements.
The larger employers who bring people over are well versed in this and have employment lawyers on tap... 😄
But a very valid point!

A lot of larger employers stopped having lawyers on tap,a lot haven't even applied for LMIA's yet either.

A lot of company web sites don't get updated very often so not a reliable source, My own company hasn't updated theirs in over a year and i know others that are as bad or worse. LMIAs seem very very rare at the moment.

my hubby is an electrician in Edmonton oil field and they have just paid off ALL workers without permanent residency so I would concur with above they will if anything rehire the ones they laid off rather than look to hire new people from abroad. Don't give up though, keep on trucking, it will just be longer than you would like to wait.

Thanks everyone for the replies :-)
There seems to be a lot of people getting paid off, we are the same over in Scotland, esp in the oil/gas sector.
I check for adverts and there always seems to be people looking for cleaners for some reason. I think it is a general thing, we can't seem to find enough cleaners over here either.
I am in no big rush, if it happens, then it happens :-)
