Applied for my first job
Hi All,
I have just applied for my first job in Canada as a skilled worker
It seems my job which is very specialist in the UK is only advertised on Skilled workers.com for some reason? it come under noc 7283.
I hope this means I have a real chance even though I am applying from the UK
I just have to convince my Girlfriend to apply for some jobs now?

Re: Applied for my first job
Hi To apply under the skilled worker route - the NOC has to be on this list - http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigra...tions.asp#list . I don't think 7283 is on the magic list of 38?
Can I apply under the Federal skilled workers scheme?

Unfortunately not, unless you have a job offer. You either need a job on the list of 38 occupations in demand (tiler not being on there), or a job offer approved by HRSDC.
So you'd need to get a job offer and LMO. The LMO is something that the employer has to apply for (you can't) and they have to prove that they've advertised the job across Canada and been unable to find a Canadian willing, or able, to do the job.
Then you could go over on a Temp Work Permit (no employer is likely to wait the 8-12 months for you to start work on a SW visa) and upgrade to PR once there.
Or alternatively, look at other visa routes. There are over 50 ways to a Canadian visa, so it would be worth you exploring some more - have a look in the Wiki for details of all of the above.
Good luck.

The employer seems to have been advertising on the skilled workers website for a long time and has many vacancies available. Its always odd to see that, as here in the UK you hardly ever see my type of work advertised.
It took me a few years to get back into the trade after my last company made people redundant.
Just could not find the jobs advertised on UK websites or in the newspapers.

Definitely worth a try though, have a read of the Job Hunting Guide of the Wiki to understand how the hiring culture works here (very different from the UK), and best of luck.

Just bear in mind that the employer may not be prepared to 'sponsor' you, i.e. go through extra paperwork to get you and have to wait several months for you to start work; and even if they are prepared to do that, the LMO may not be granted as loads are being refused at the moment due to so many Canadians being out of work.
