Apple or PC
My knowledge of apple computers is very minimum. Do more business in Canada use PC or Apple? Or is it like England 50/50

Re: Apple or PC
I don't think it's 50/50 in England. As far as I can tell, in your mainstream business settings it'll be PCs all the way but in the more creative and academic sectors there's a fair take-up of Macs. Our lab is 5:1 in favour of Macs at the moment although we do have a few extra PCs kicking around to run specific bits of software.

I'm a mac user. Formerly PC. If you are going to be working in the same field of business in Toronto as in London than you should go mac. Most entertainment industry people in North America are mac users. I could go in to a whole debate on pros and cons on both systems. Today there is no reason to not go mac as the intel version runs windows (using parallels or bootcamp) and linux as well as OS X so you can have the best of both worlds. Mnd you if you go with a mac intel machine and load windows on it you still need all the anti virus anti spy ware etc as you would on a PC. I have in my windows installation. I don't in my mac installation. I just kick in the firewall and that's it. By the way - Rob, I need to have a chat with you in private in the capacity of your business. Expect a PM. /YYZ |
Re: Apple or PC
You didn't say what line of business you are in.
A PC is going to run Windows, or Linux. An Apple is going to run Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. So it depends on what you want. If you want to use a Mac then don't worry about the rest - you can run Windows on it too.

Re: Apple or PC
If money's an issue you'll be able to buy a PC cheaper than a Mac. Otherwise, Macs tend to be nicer, in my opinion.

Re: Apple or PC
I think it's actually illegal for a gay theatrical agent to own a PC, so that's easy enough.

Re: Apple or PC

Re: Apple or PC
Most businesses use PCs, apart from marketing and design etc. I personally have used Macs for the last 4 years and would never go back to PCs.

I'm also a trained but not certified network engineer in NT and novell. It was during that training I found that the more I learnt about microsoft the more I disliked it. For lack of better alternative I switched to Linux and then to Mac when OS X arrived. I'm now MS free and don't even use office. iWork 08 rules! Even makes wrangling a mysql database a joy. |

That said, I know several people who've switched from Windows to Mac in the last year or two. I can't think of anyone who's switched the other way. |

Or as Douglas Adams once said Apple may not get everything right, but at least they knew the century was going to end :) . |
