Default Anyone who has shipped a dog to canada

Hi,

We are thinking about shipping our dog to Canada but were not sure how he may get on here as opposed to the Uk. We were hoping to get some feedback from others who have brought their dog over and how well the dog has adapted. We also were looking at the cheapest and best route to ship the dog. We did a search on here and read some posts but hoped we could get some new insight.

Thanks

I don't think dogs really know what country they're in.

Has the pooch a problem with timbits?

If it's anything like Vancouver, he'll think he's died and gone to doggy heaven. The number of organic gourmet dog food delis over here is obscene.

Air Canada has decided it will no longer carry pets.

Yeah I heard that on the news tonight and I am friends with an Air Canada pilot who was at the house tonight who was telling me exactly what I saw on the news... they need more room for the extra luggage... I guess if you anyonw was going to fly Air Canada they will have to look elsewhere..

We flew 2 collies over - separate crates, but they were kept together through the process.

We used BA, and did all the paperwork ourselves. See here for more info: http://www.britishairways.com/travel/pets2/public/en_gb

Hi Rich
How much approximately did it cost to send your dogs ? We have a golden retriever to bring with us. She would probably be the same size as your dogs.
Thanks

Question Par Air

We are going over to calgary in the next 6 to 10 weeks and i am just organising the shipping of the "4 legged hairy one"

Shipping can be broken down into 2 parts, pre shipping and shipping.

Pre Shipping

1.The dog needs to be prepaired for export.

2.Get the dog identichipped and health checked

3.Get the rabies jab done

4.30 days later it will need a blood test to see that the vaccination took.

5.We had Gizmo zapped for Kennel Cough.

6.Order Pet Pssport, they need this if they need to come back to UK (you never know)

7.Get the vet to weigh the dog.

The whole lot came to £225.

Shipping

this is what we did, it may not be the cheapest, but we think its the best and safest and we used the compan before when we came back from Germany and they are very good.

Now measure the dog

Tip of nose to base of tail (length)
Floor to top of shoulder when standing (hieght)
Shoulder width while sitting (width)

We then phoned Par Air and asked for a quote, this is what we were quoted

Collection from Swindon to Colchester £121.00
Shipping London airport to Calgary £1185.50
Export health Certificate £40.00
Kenneling £7.50 per day

We intend to drop him off ourselves 2 days before we fly so we can go thru the paperwork with the shippers and he will stay in kennels for 14 days so we can get over there, move into the house, buy a car etc etc. then we go back up to Calgary and collect him.

Like i said this may not be the cheapest but i think its the safest, easyest and most comfortable for the dog, i know their kennels are good because ive been down there although it was a while ago.

There is a lot cheaper way to send smaller dogs but Gizmo is

Length 100*Hieght 65*Width 28 and weighs 28.7 kilos.

Hope this helps

if it does could someone please give me a bit of Karma, ive got bugger all at the moment

Sounds about right (although it is a little pricey)

The total cost (kenneling for 2 days, purchase of crates, shipping, all certificates - the blood test for rabies is only required if you want to obtain a pet passport - and shipping) totalled approx 2100 pounds (can't remember the precise figure).
