Default Anyone in SW Communities?

Does anyone live in any of the SW Communities?

We have done a recce on most of the NW communities and a few of the SW.

Hubby is very keen to have smallest commute possible - hence starting to look at SW.

Just collecting info for now so any info/thoughts/feelings about the communities from anyone is very welcome.

Also please tell me places to avoid if there are any or any where the commute is a mare.

Thanks!

Within 30 mins of the city.

Search is very open at the minute so any info on anything is great.

Any particular city, or should we feel free to pick one ourselves?

Where will he be working? It is a little difficult to advise on shortest commute with such information.

There are no bad areas in the SW. I don't believe there are any bad areas in Calgary at all, but I know that others will disagree.

IMHO, you need to visit to see what suits you. Will your OH be using transit to get to work, walking, driving, biking etc.

Thanks - he will be on 5th Ave.

Yes I agree with you about visiting I just wanted some info to start the search as it's a big area to cover. He'll be either taking car or LRT.

Whereabouts on 5th Avenue? 5th Avenue north or south? If it is south and downtown, the C-train will likely get him where he needs to go, therefore, you will need to be within easy access of an LRT station.

Southwood, Haysboro, Oakridge. Older neighbourhoods -- 60/70s -- but we like it, and there are a few Brits in the area -- if I wanted to be surround by other expats, who sang the praises of shopping in Debenhams, Next, Tesco, etc, I would have moved to Cochrane (or, maybe Basingstoke!) The OH travels downtown to work in just over 15 minutes on the LRT, but it can take 45 mins to drive it in the rush hour -- and it is only 11 kms door-to-door! Mind you, we are also only 300 metres from the local LRT station, so no car-parking problems either.

15 mins on the LRT? sounds ideal! Any houses on your street going up for rent? saying that I do like Next and I shop a lot at Tesco. Can't say I talk about them much tho!

There are indeed! A couple of bungalows (with off-street parking via a back entrance) have recently been upgraded and are now on the market.

Have you thought about the communities that are connected by BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) - its a limited stop express service. Check out the communities going north up through centre street, up to Panorama and Country Hills in the North. Also, to the West out as far as Aspen (and these ones will get C Train sometime at the end of 2012 as well). Both of these would be a pretty reasonable downtown commute by transit.

Nope - because I haven't heard of the BRT... so thanks for that info!

Great to know!
