Default Anyone shipped from Northern Ireland?

Hi folks

Just wondering if anyone has shipped goods from Northern Ireland to Canada recently? We are currently trying to get quotes for groupage and a 20ft container. We had initially planned to ship individual pallets, but it's a lot more expensive than we were originally led to believe. We won't fill a 20ft container (have already rented our house here as furnished) but it means we'll be able to bring a lot more with us, and will probably cost not a great deal more than shipping 2 or 3 pallets.

If anyone has shipped from NI any advice would be greatly appreciated. Have already come across a few companies who won't even give us quotes to ship from here which is very frustrating.

Many thanks
Dee

We moved over in 2007 from Co. Cork and we used McGimpseys from Bangor
http://www.mcgimpseys.com/ We found them very good to deal with.

Thanks, Inse. We contacted McGimpsey's a few days ago - they've given us a quote for groupage but we've asked them for a price for a 20ft container now. Looks like that will be much more cost effective. They are working on two quotes for us - an economy service (we pack/wrap, load container & organise everything ourselves once it reaches Halifax). Second quote is door to door. Which did you go for? I know which option we'd prefer! It's just a case of whether we can afford that option.

We went for door to door. They sent a couple of guys down to Cork in their truck and they did the packing and loading up. That, to us, seemed a good way to ensure no insurance queries later should there be any damage.
They were very professional, and friendly, and had plenty of boxes and packing material with them.
We had no forwarding address in BC when they left us in Cork, but when we managed to find a place to rent on our arrival all we did was to give them a ring with contact details. They then got in contact when our stuff arrived into Vancouver to arrange a delivery time.
There was a small amount of breakage, to fragile objects, and a missing ladder. When we spoke to them they were very helpful. We agreed on an amount and they just sent us a payment, this being a better arrangement than going through the insurance. All in all we were very pleased with their performance.

Hi,

Just to add that we too used McGimpsey's door to door from Northern Ireland to BC. Their service was excellent, even if a little more than the other quotes. I would use them again without hesitation. One broken cup/plate in the entire shipment!

Good luck

Search the threads over on the right Dee. I asked pretty much the same question the other day and got some more answers from Ireland.

Flirty Knickers recently moved from NI to Ontario. She doesn't post on here much anymore but if you drop her a message she might be able to help you.

Cheers everyone.

BcBound, useful to have some more feedback on McGimpsey's. Their quote is certainly more expensive but it might be worth it in the long run.

Londonuck, can't see the threads but will keep looking.... do you have a link?

Kazbob, will send a pm, thanks for that.

Paul n sue, have just sent off an email to kfl. Hope we get this sorted soon, was hoping to fly out next week.

Thanks again folks, your advice is greatly appreciated.
