He’s a gas technician (or engineer here in the U.K) . He’s already challenged his plumbing qualifications from the U.K. and has passed his Red Seal so we’ve used this for our visa application. Once we arrive he’ll do the same for his gas.

You need certification and registration from TSSA. Unless things have changed recently there is no red seal for gas and oil in Ontario.

He has probably challenged and obtained the Certificate of Qualification from Ontario for Plumber; he may ALSO have got a Red Seal Endorsement on his C of Q - it's not a stand alone thing, it's only real use is to allow him to work in other Provinces without needing to requalify.
https://www.collegeoftrades.ca/wp-co...pr-23-2019.pdf

He might find the official Jobbank of use - has info about what qualifications are needed also useful for finding jobs - it's Gas Fitter, generally, here) .. https://www.jobbank.gc.ca/marketrepo...ments/16971/ON - then check out tssa etc.

Gas will require him to be licensed by TSSA. https://www.tssa.org/en/fuels/resour...ublication.pdf (opens in new tab, no download - page 11) - sadly there is no Red Seal Endorsement for Gas Fitter in Ontario: http://www.red-seal.ca/trades/g.1sf.3tt.2rb-eng.html

Going back to your question - if you want to be mid way between Niagara and Port Elgin you might want to look at Guelph and surrounding areas.. I have a nephew who is a prof at Guelph Uni and he and his family love living there - plenty to do, countryside nearby and a lake to go the beach. There's a Y there https://www.guelphy.org/en/index.aspx - running clubs https://therunningworks.ca/links/ and several dance studios too including Guelph Youth Dance https://guelphyouthdance.ca/ - not forgetting swimming https://guelph.ca/living/recreation/...m-schedules-2/
It's a Uni town, some nice older buildings and houses as well as the more modern stuff, there's transit to Toronto and elsewhere https://guelph.ca/living/getting-aro...ntral-station/

I agree with everybody that you need to find the job first. I’m drawn to small places but the jobs just aren’t there so you may need to live close to a city to ensure hubby gets a job. For you too.

As far as schools are concerned I would choose a home based on neighbourhood not specifically school. If you live in an area where the residents sit out on their porches smoking weed all day long and drinking all evening then your children will be going to school with their children. Not necessarily the best of foundations for life. Call me a snob but I’m sure most of you would agree.

when it comes to choosing a house make sure to bring lots of documents. If you won’t have jobs lined up then be prepared to be rejected by landlords or you will likely have to pay six months up front. Don’t buy until you’ve been here for a year so you know where you want to live.

On the contrary, I loved living in the Beach and I don't think early exposure to cosmopolitan life harmed my children. I note that the one with children of her own is doing about the same now by living in Kitsilano.

ok maybe I should be a little more specific. Some neighbourhoods, the residents will smoke weed, drink all evening and not do a days work in their lives. Not really the type of influence I would want in my kids.
