Never been to the Maritimes, but we may decide to move there. Housing is cheap, scenery is lovely and crime rate is low.
I would be grateful to hear from anyone who has moved to any of the Maritime provinces. Was it the right decision??

It was the right decision for me cos the missus is a Newfoundlander. That may not be the right decision for anyone else!

It all depends on what sort of lifestyle your looking for !!!. Each Canadian city has it's own sort of characteristic / personality.

We're going on a holiday/reccie trip to Halifax in less than 5 weeks and I can't wait
We've been to Vancouver and thought it was a great city, but didn't want to live there. We found it too crowded. Great beaches though and the people were friendly
Enjoy your new life RJH

There are some things that we had access to at home that we dont here but equally there is so much outdoor life on your doostep compared with back home.
Have fun making your decision.

(UK has bought up all the cheap housing in France, Spain, Bulgaria etc., and folks are now looking further afield for holiday places.)
And with a decent climate, and not too far removed from the UK for visitors.
We are hoping to buy a small holiday park/campground or set up our own.
Recce in September when we complete on selling the business here.
My other half is Canadian and has lived in Toronto (Scarborough) and Carstairs (near Calgary) and reckons NS is the place to go now.

We were thinking about it aswell. We lived in Vancouver for 6 years before going back to London. Only worry is work. Looking at Ontario but love living near the ocean.

. Having been here just over 3 weeks, I have a downtown apartment that is 5 mins walk from the harbour and the bars / restaurants, and if I take the long way round, it will take me 8 minutes to walk to work
.So far, it's been a great decision to come to Canada and well worth all the waiting and worrying
so fingers crossed, things carry on in such a possitive way.Best wishes to all still waiting to come and to everyone who has already arrived.

We live on PEI so far its been great. A beautiful place nice people, lots to see and do during the summer months but very cold in winter with lots of snow.
As we love the snow............its great.
Living here can be expensive but house prices are good although prices are increasing now.The employment situation can be a problem if you are not a tradesman but in all we are enjoying our new life here.
You get on and off the island by ferry or the bridge you dont pay to come to the island but its $40 if you want off ie shopping in Halifax etc.
Hope this helps. vi.

We have lived in Ontario for some years but know that heating a home is expensive in the maritimes. Can anyone tell us HOW expensive? What is the cheapest source of heat you use? Is firewood available cheaply? We are looking at a great big ole house but wonder how much it would cost to put in new windows to keep the heat in and how much to heat 6 bedrooms!

We're installing an outdoor wood furnace for our home in PEI to replace the existing oil system, although the baseboards, etc. will continue to be utilised.
I've been quoted $90 per cord of wood but don't yet know how many cords we will use a year. It will certainly be a lot cheaper than the oil system and you can use lower grades of wood or scrap wood in it too. I was told by users of similar systems that a few cords would get us through the winter. Also, these outdoor furnaces take up to 5' lengths of wood which is cheaper than smaller logs. We will also be looking into getting a woodlot to manage for continued free supplies. If the house you are looking at is a reasonable distance from neighbours, you could look at installing a similar system. PM me if you want any further details.
Regarding windows, we're having some new ones put in. The quote hasn't come through yet, but the guy who came around to do the estimate said they cost about $250 per window and after adding labour and taxes budget on around $425. The window size is approximately 24" x 52" and the price includes insect screening, etc.
Hope that helps.

Same as us really- came from the UK in 2001 and been in Vancouver for 5 years. Just landed in Nova Scotia, being overwelmed at how busy Vancouver has become in such a short time we wanted a change but also had to stay on the coast!!
We had made the decision to move, but fortunately the husband got work!
