anyone experienced Lufthansa or BMI?

Has anyone flown with Lufthansa or BMI back to Britain before?

Flew with Lufthansa back in 2009 - Heathrow - Frankfurt - Denver - Calgary (we were using our Aeroplan points at the last minute and couldn't be too choosy with the route!)

Heathrow - Frankfurt and Frankfurt - Denver were both nice, shiny, new-looking planes with the seat back TVs on the transatlantic route. We were in Business class and the seats were nice, although a bit hard. Economy looked pretty similar to other airlines for legroom. No complaints really. On a par with BA and AC. If they were the cheapest then I'd certainly fly with them again, no problems. Transferring in Frankfurt wasn't any hassle at all either.

I don't think BMI actually flies Canada to Europe - I think its just a code share with another Star Alliance airline such as Air Canada.

Flew with Lufthansa a few years ago from Manchester-Frankfurt-Toronto-Dusseldorf-Manchester. The flight to and from Germany was on an older shuttle type plane, but the flight only lasted about an hour. The flight to Toronto was on a Fokker, almost brand new and identicle to a 747. The flight staff were very nice as well on a par with BA. You can actually smoke in Franfurt and Dusseldorf airport, they have an airlocked room.

We flew with Lufthansa Calgary to Frankfurt last year, flight was good, service was good. Only complaint was at both Calgary and Frankfurt we were delayed due to some mechanical thing, but at least it was sorted on the ground before we flew.
We wil fly with them again.

Done BMI return flight from the UK to DC once. The outbound flight was one of the best transatlantic flights I have ever been on, especially considering the price. The return not so much but that's because it was around a public holiday and crowded full of British tourists returning from Florida.

Think you were supping too much duty free, Fokker made nothing like a 747 let alone identicle (or even identical). Those little Fokkers only made commuter/utility a/c (Post WW2 away).

Funny ****! Fokker and Smiths aerospace are now as one company and are owned by Boeing. Fokker were taken over by Smiths aerospace when they ran into financial difficulty when I worked there back in 98.

I've been politely asked to drop the matter regarding the posts on the other thread, I strongly suggest that you do the same and play the game. Or you'll start me off again, and you will just prove what a provocotive **** you and some of the other posters are.

If you don't agree with what a poster is saying, it is up to you to be polite and assert yourself in dissagreeing with them. Otherwise you might get their back up with your snidy attitude.

Eh? You think that Fokker make or made an aircraft "almost identical" to a 747? Or just that there is a remnant of Fokker within Boeing still not yet redundant?

But back on track. LH is my airline of choice for transatlantic fights but, as has been mentioned, unless you're going to Frankfurt, it'll probably be a co-listed AC or BA operated flight in reality.

So I guess I won't call you a little dicked imbecile? (Not that I would).

Of course there is also your offensive location and signature.

I don't see you sticking around too long. Lets hope the same applies to you being allowed into Canada.

With regard to AE points, if you can handle the connection in the US then this is the best way to use them. Get a Star Alliance reward (its worth paying the fee to call in and book). Try not to get on an AC operated flight, certainly not across the Atlantic. Taxes etc are much, much lower than AC.

As far as the US is concerned, BMI discontinued transatlantic flights a couple of years back, we are flying on BMI tickets but in United Airlines aircraft this year.

When they did they were fantastic, aside from one flight when landing in Manchester UK in heavy crosswinds, we could hear the cabin crew questioning the abilities of the (newly promoted) Pilot.

* A quick check on www.flybmi.com (selecting Canada as the locale) shows that BMI use Air Canada for flights in and out of there.

Both. Many times. Neither sticks in the memory. Frankly I don't get the whole airline comparison thing, they're all mildly unpleasant, they all get you where you have to go. Comparing them is like comparing brands of balloons or plastic tableclothes. Don't bother, just take the cheapest one.

Within reason. But there's no way I'd fly transatlantic with something like Air Transat or Canadian Affair ever again.

I've done both when transporting a family of four on a single credit card and learned my lesson the hard way.

In the grander scheme of things a few hundred bucks is not worth my self respect.

I was mightily peeved with Thomas Cook on my flight to the UK last month for my sister's wedding. But very chuffed with Transat on the flight back.

As mentioned in the other thread they are upgrading their planes and it was a more luxorious flight than I have ever experienced with anyone else and a bigger TV screen too.

It might be worth another punt on Transat in the future.
