Anyone brought pets over recently?
Hi all, not been on this site for a long time, sorry for disapearing like that *lol*
Anyway, I've just found out that my British fiance is having second thoughts about our relationship and I am now in a position where I will be moving back home to Canada ASAP.:frown: I have a little cat here in the UK that I want to bring back with me to Canada and it looks like my old bookmarks (researched this a few months back) are out-dated & some airlines dont seem to be catering to pet travel any longer. Anyone out there that has travelled recently with pets from Manchester (to Montreal) recently that knows of airlines accepting pets? Any help and/or advice would be appreciated! :) |

H Daedra....your fiance must be a real fool;) Sorry that you are having to go back on your own, maybe things will work out ok in the end.
Zoom still take pets and Air Canada as cargo - not sure though if it would be better to book with a pet handler though:thumbup: |

Re: Anyone brought pets over recently?
Evening all,
We brought two cats over on August 1st on Air Canada (cargo). Couldn't have been more straight forward. Just booked them on the same flight as us. Cost was £300 for the two of them. They travelled in the same wooden crate (cost £50). No problems. Air Canada were fantastic with them. Picking them up was a breeze, form stamped by customs and collected them (about a half an hour in total). We did look into using a professional pet company but we were quoted £975:eek: Not sure why you would bother using then as our route seemed very simply. Maybe I am missing something? Been a long day as I had to drive to work this morning through a blizzard. I have to drive up some mountainous roads and I may need a new steering wheel from gripping it so hard. Best of luck with transporting you little cat and also with returning home. Alro |
Re: Anyone brought pets over recently?
Do you want to stay with me for a while? I've got this huge house with just me in it and I'm craving female company.
Hope you and your cat can drop off and stay for a week or so, love, steve. |
Re: Anyone brought pets over recently?
We came KLM, cats as excess baggage. Saved a fortune (as cargo it was about 5 x price, plus much more stress for cats!).
Air Canada have seasonal restrictions, due to high/low temperatures. Do whatever you can to bring them as excess. Plenty of Airlines allow it. All of them will do it as cargo. |
Re: Anyone brought pets over recently?
Try PM-ing Robski, she brought her cat with her about four months ago. Good luck.:D

I bought Salomon over with me as Excess Baggage on my flights with Air Canada in July, and have not regretted it for a minute, she coped really well. (Pic her first night in Canada, about 1 hr after we got to friends house) Good luck to you. |

Re: Anyone brought pets over recently?
Hi all,
We thought that none of the airlines were taking pets as excess baggage anymore and as such, we started looking at the companies that specialise in moving pets. We were not too keen with their quotes, so I phoned Air Canada Cargo to find out how much it would be to book our dogs flight ourselves. I was very pleased to hear that he said that we need to book the flights ourselves with the reservations department and then tell them that you are taking your dog and they will add him on as excess baggage. I said that the web page says that Air Canada no longer take pets as excess baggage, but he assured me that they do. Contacted numerous people in the reservations department (didn't want to just trust one!) and they ALL said that I could book our dog as excess baggage on the same flight as ourselves for $245 CAD. So, our flights are booked for 12th February 08 with Air Canada and total cost for two adults, an infant and a dog is £1022. We booked a return fair and just won't use the return. Just have to pay for the DEFRA certificate and Rabies jab from the vets. So my advice...ring Air Canada and book your pets on, instead of paying the £750+ for a company to do it. Hope this helps, Jay |

We've got friends staying with us who flew over their 12 year old German Shepherd via the same flight as them on Air Transat ~(I think) - can check info if anyone interested. They organised everything inc vet's docs themselves. |
