Default Anyone from around Duncan BC?

Myself (27) and my husband (28) are planning on moving to Duncan around September 2021. I am a Canadian Citizen and he has his spouse visa in process but we are living in the UK currently. My whole immediate family actually lives in Duncan so moving won't be a complete shock but I want my husband to be happy and comfortable so I was on the look out for like-minded people to potentially chat with and for a meet up when we get there to help him feel more at home!

Hes quite social so going out for runs or for a round of golf hes in his element!

We know the area quite well and we do enjoy it there a lot but it would help his transition a lot more if he knew there were other brits in the same situation over there!

Thanks

Hello and welcome to BE!

I saw your post in our 'welcome forum' and am quoting it below - so you don't get a million questions

I'm very new to all of this - I am a UK citizen, 27 years old and my whole family moved to Canada in 2012 when I was 18 when my dad applied under the Skilled Workers process. We all got Canadian Citizenship in 2017. I lived there and went to Uni there for 5 years, all whilst going through a long distance relationship with someone I knew from secondary school! We managed it with great difficulty and I moved back to the UK in February 2017 to get married!

We have been in the UK ever since, working and saving money but now we're ready to move back to Canada to be with my family and to start our own family!

We have just started the process of getting my husband a Spouse Visa under the Family sponsorship class. I've had our application ready for a while but just took the plunge hiring an immigration lawyer (I'm way too nervous to send it off myself!) and the application should be ready to send off by the end of December. We're very excited and even though we know there may be a delay with COVID and all - we're hoping to be in Canada by the end of 2021.

We will be moving to a town on Vancouver Island, somewhere in the middle of Victoria and Nanaimo. My whole family lives there and we've both visited plenty of times so we know the area quite well. Knowing i've done it once before is great but I will also have lots and lots of questions in the run up to the move!

It would be great to start a chat with anyone else who can offer advice with meeting new people on the island. My husband (28) is very outgoing and loves the English culture so meeting up for a pint or a run with his mates is very important to him. We would love to meet some like-minded people around the area!

Its very weird because my parents have met some of their closest friends on here then we met up in person when we first moved in 2012 so I'm really hoping we can do the same!

Thanks all
One thing that stood out - you really don't need an immigration consultant to help you with the Spousal Sponsorship for Permanent Residency (it's not a visa) - please don't waste your money, save it for the move over!! We have a wonderful wiki which will 'walk you through' all the forms, give you information on how to fill them out - what to include (and not to) and what happens at each stage. An immigration consultant can actually make the process longer - you are the one who has to fill out all the forms, show proof of intent to return, show proof of your genuine relationship, write the 'story' of your relationship (both of you need to do this).. the immigration consultant can't do any of that for you.. you will be paying them to check your work! If you are stuck on any questions we have many experts on here who will give you advice free of charge - and hundreds who have already done this process who can offer help!

We live in Mill Bay just to the sought of Duncan. We’ve been here about 10 years. There is a pretty significant British contingent around here but I’d say the majority of us are somewhat older than you, so not sure how much use we’ll be in the running, jumping and pubbing department.

Should have added that we’d be delighted to introduce ourselves and share our experiences/knowledge of the area. What do you guys do for work? Will you be looking for employment?
