Re: any scotties?
My old mans work is just off Etna Road. Small world!
On a different note, Im glad someone has mentioned "scotties". I was ridiculed by my other half for calling tissues scotties! But then I'd never heard of a cully-backy (spelling?!) - was always a cally-code to me (again, spelling?!)

.. you should hear the flack I get for using certain words. Locals are convinced that I make them up as I go along, but we all know, that Scottish phrasing is a never ending book!
BTW, you can still get Abernethy Biscuits right? (think Royal Scots are no more though?)

We can buy most products here in town - black and white (oatmeal) puddings are sold at the supermarkets and we can buy more home-made tablet and fudge than your teeth can cope with (although it's all called toffee). We even get Tunnock's teacakes, wafers, and caramel logs at a wee corner shop and the prices good at under $3 per pack. Barr's Irn Bru, Baxter's soup and shortbread are sold at most supermarkets. We can even buy haggis but the consistency is a little different
Tartan, pipers and fiddly diddly music abundant - Nova Scotia is more Scottish than Scotland lol

I'm originally from Bridge of Allan, just outside Stirling, and OH is originally from Perth. We're both in depressing Glasgow right now, but our target is Nova Scotia

Re: any scotties?
A small part of our city is affectionately known as "Little Britain" .. as many Brits who head to the valley, end up settling down in this area. This has increased the need for some local stores to import the most popular products, which are dearly missed by newcomers from the UK.
Needless to say, I'm sorted for Haggis, Irn Bru, Square Sausage, Black Pudding, Pot Noodles, Ayeshire Bacon ... the list goes on!
All the best.

Re: any scotties?
just thought I'd let you know we had a lovely run in the car to Loch Lomond and had lunch at Duck Bay Marina and then on to Crainlarich and Tyndrum. Weather was lovely, snow on the hills but sunny intervals. Nothing to beat the Scottish Highlands.
Have a nice Easter

Stop it!!! ... you're making me home sick!
Seriously though, I hope to get back over to Scotland one day (with far more time on my hands than a couple of weeks) ... so many areas I still haven't managed to show my wife (Canadian) ... our last visit was mainly central belt, apart from a brief couple of days in the Scottish Borders (Peebles/Galashiels/Jedburgh/Innerleithan/Denholm etc).
All the best.

Well I'm sure she would love up North, from Loch Lomond up to Perth< Aviemore and Inverness not to mention popping in to Edinburgh.
Something to look forward for you both although BC seems a lovely place too from what I've read.
