Hey all

So the question is, would any on in the Vernon,BC area like to meet up for a beer?

My wife and I have been here a few months and would love to meet other expats for a chat, beer or coffee

Looking forward to hearing from any one

Cheers
Roger

Roger did you ever meet up with anyone? Are there many Brits in Vernon? My husband and I are thinking of moving there (we are elsewhere in BC) and I would like to meet other Brits!

This could go nicely with the Kelowna and Penticton threads.

Well Missy there are apparently hundreds of the buggers running around Vernon somewhere, but can I find one?? I think not!! I found Stinky ( jolly nice ole boy ) but that's it.
I'm thinking, maybe I should lay traps..... Say a "fish & chips" in the streets and as they approach and sniff warily I could cosh em The trouble is a wild Brit is a pesky species who hide in tea shops and lurk around in Antique stores!
I'm going to start with Digestive biscuits I think and work up to the f&c trapp..... Maybe leave a crumb trail past unsuspecting doctors offices!

Any more ideas please reply on a postcard to - lost in Vernon, BC

I did not say I hate the Okanagan.

I said I could/would not live there, big difference.

It's way too hot for me in summer and too overcast in winter. I much prefer temps to be more moderate in summer, no higher than 23C is what I would like. I don't do hot very well at all heart-wise. And I guess I 've become an Albertan, as I can handle the odd cold snap but I really prefer all the sunshine we get year round.

Besides my kids and grandkids live close by in Calgary and we don't want to move away from them.

Very true, plenty of Canadians here who we know and hang out with at the weekends, but it would be nice to see some other Brits here occasionally.

Missy if you come here let us know

Grumpy, it's been hot here at around 35-40c plus the smoke this year...... But it's a very nice place and a great place to visit

OK, fair enough- anyhow if you are ever in the area give me a shout and we could bore the pants off our other halves, taking photography-they can just get sloshed on the local wine

Missy mum, I'm not sure where you live now, what the local population is and why you might wish to move to Vernon but certain things obviously need to be considered. The same applies to Aqua really- he came from Ottowa- huge population with probably a reasonable expat population to Vernon- a lot smaller- population of around 50k which clearly doesn't . Yes- Kelowna isn't far with some expats there and Penticton if you fancy some boatin' and huntin' with Jossie in Penticton but we are more scattered. It partly depends on what you do- we encounter a lot of Canadians, and other nationalities at work and so socialise to some degree with them. Maybe we are unsociable and not gregarious and just enjoy ourselves without dependence on fellow expats. That isn't to say we don't want to meet up with our British buddies, it is fun when we do but it isn't crucial. A trip down the road and a meetup at a pub by the Okanagan in Kelowna may well an idea. I was thinking, TiryTory I reckon lives in a similar sized town what do you feel TT?

Perhaps someone (we won't mention names) didn't care for some minor thread drift regarding my preferrences as to not living in the Okanagan.

Just a thought.
