I take prescription medicine daily. You can't buy it over the counter here or at home so I brought a three month supply. When that runs out can I just go to the walk in clinic and speak to a doctor there about getting a new prescription if I haven't found a family doctor of our own?
Thanks Lisa

Yes, but they are not obliged to just give you the same drug..they might (or might not) feel obliged to give it some independent thought.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm kind of hoping that whoever I speak to is happy to prescribe the same or very a similar drug
Guess that's another bridge I will cross when I come to it.
Thanks

In your favour is the fact that clinic doctors seldom if ever feel the urge to exercise independent thoughts

It's something that you probably should find out sooner rather than later though .... not when you are at the point of running out.... (sorry if that's stating the obvious, but you never know on here)

I have Asthma which has been very good since I moved to Saskatchewan allowing me to use my preventer at it's minimum, however I have had a bad dose of flu which developed into a chest infection therefore the supply I brought with me went do quickly. I walked into the clinic in Regina and took my medication with me, the doctor wrote me out a new prescription and I went to shoppers and changed it. I was amazed however by the price of medication, one inhaler at full price would be $95 plus tax, Mal's company has a good medical plan so it ended up costing me $26 plus tax.
Moral of this story, check they do the same medication and the cost.

Here is a City of Calgary web page that lists 2005 dispensing fees:
Sobeys - $5.65
Costco - $5.76
Superstore - $6.05
Wal-Mart - $6.79
Save On Foods - $7.80
London Drugs - $8.18
Zellers - $8.42
Meditrust (mail order) - $8.73
Pharmasave - $10.44
Safeway - $10.53
Calgary Co-op - $10.58
Independent Pharmacies - $11.21
Shoppers Drug Mart - $11.47
But, frankly, you need to use common sense. If you were going to Costco for other reasons, it would make sense to fill your prescription there. But you have to consider your time, the price of gasoline, wear and tear on your vehicle, etc.Costco - $5.76

Do you have to be a member of Costco? We only have one in Regina which is right at the other end of the city so it wouldn't really have been cost effective to travel. But I'm glad you said to shop around thanks

Yes.
If you are within reasonable distance of Sobeys, Superstone, or Walmart, they probably would be cheaper than Shoppers Drug Mart.
I hear what you said about feeling too sick to care. But it's good to know about the differences in dispensing fees when you have an ongoing prescription that has to be filled at intervals.

I then had to drive into regina 54 km so I just wanted my script filled and a quick turn around to get home. What I did do is stock up on items that I can keep at home now. I think it was worse cos I didn't have my stock of Vicks etc that I would have in Wales and I did not have my flu jab - another learning curve since coming to Canada

I never even thought that there would be such a thing, let alone that it would vary. I am surprised that Sobeys is cheaper than Zellers. The Zellers here is rough and ready, you feel you have gone up in the world if you then shop in Walmart
