I drive a ford Escape with just on 300,000km. Its been Ford's for more than 10 years with a 4 year gap owning a used GM SUV in between and a Asian vehicle also as a second car

The Ford scares me, for I **** everytime I get in it wondering if it will let me down. Prior to the Ford(s) it was Chryslers, same **** thing

Vehicles are vehicles that I always expect will breakdown constantly

OP, take a look at a used late model ...

VW Tiguan or a Nissan Rogue

not a fan of the Tiguan (hairdressers car)..Nissan could be an option..im looking at the Fusion as its the Mondeo which i had back in the UK and does the job nicely..plus i can get a well spec late 2016 model low kms for just around $20k which will work.

Are you denigrating the car or the profession? What separates a Tiguan from a Rogue in terms of what appears to be masculine acceptability?

I don't think you can get a hatchback Fusion, and if you're thinking of the Escape too, then maybe you should look at the Edge, which is a 4x4 on a Fusion floorpan, and of course would get you the hatchback if that's important to you.

I will ask OH if there are any actual issues to look out for on these.

OK, so the reply was 'If it's AWD, oil leaks from the front end and also the rear axles, on both models but more so on an Edge.

I have a 2013 Ford Fusion, its the FWD option (not AWD). I have had it since it was new and I really like it. It has had quite a few recalls for various bits and pieces but my particular car didn't exhibit any of the fault conditions. Not a hatchback but the boot is very large and you can drop the rear seats to make it even larger. I have recently done a lot of longish trips - 5-6 hours of non stop driving and I find it very comfortable.

Just bought my daughter a Mazda CX-3 AWD. Cute car and nicely put together. She loves it so far after coming from an old Tuscon.

Thanks for all the replies..i think im going to go for the face lifted 2017 Fusion have seen some nearly new with low kms that are fully loaded..that fall well within my car allowance and then some...seems much better value than the Edge or the Escape..or any SUV really.
