Hi All
My wife and I are seriously considering moving to Quebec from the UK and whilst we both can speak reasonable French, we wonder if there are any areas/towns/villages within say 50 miles of Montreal, which are a bit more "anglo"?
We also enjoy the outdoor lifestyle so proximity to lakes, mountains, golf etc would be a bonus.
Cheers

Toward the west of montreal in the suburbs, there are are quite a few anglo areas. Places like Beaconsfield and Kirkland.
They are quite near a lake and some large parks. They are very english (even the road signs) and in my opinion a fair commute.

If you have even more time and want to live in Ontario, but work in Montreal, South Lancaster, Ont...has some lovely homes right on the St. Lawrence River (it is called Lake St. Francis there as it is so wide).
Remember, if you have kids, they will go to french school, unless you or your spouse went to english school in Canada. Or there is the private school route.
Despite all this, if moving to Kaybec (the only 3rd world nation with snow), its best to learn/speak french wherever possible. Otherwise, a lot will pass you by

You've gotta love these BE language filters. Yesterday the system stopped me from using f e c k. Today it seems quite happy to allow the unfettered use of some serious gros mots.

Its Merde Souv ! Not Marde
I am moving to Cote St luc on the island of Montreal June 1
. It is also very English. Westmount( if you can afford it ) and Notre Dame de Grace are also very English. Granted they are central Montreal . The Eastern Townships are beautiful and mostly English( Lennoxville, Magog) about 1 hour from Montreal.

Thanks for all your suggestions guys, I'll now have to do a bit of internet research on the areas you mentioned and check out the Wiki thread.
French Schools aren't an issue for us luckily nor is daily commuting into Montreal, but we just didn't want to totally immerse ourselves into a 100% french language community nor for that matter into the reverse!
Cheers
