Default Anglo Areas in Quebec

Hi All
My wife and I are seriously considering moving to Quebec from the UK and whilst we both can speak reasonable French, we wonder if there are any areas/towns/villages within say 50 miles of Montreal, which are a bit more "anglo"?
We also enjoy the outdoor lifestyle so proximity to lakes, mountains, golf etc would be a bonus.
Cheers
Ray

Toward the west of montreal in the suburbs, there are are quite a few anglo areas. Places like Beaconsfield and Kirkland.

They are quite near a lake and some large parks. They are very english (even the road signs) and in my opinion a fair commute.

As the previous poster indicated, the "west island" (which isn't an island geographically on its own...it just seems an isolated outpost of english speakers), of Montreal is full of anglo pockets. I.e Kirkland, Beaconsfield, Pointe Claire, Pierrefonds, St. Anne de Bellevue. As well, if you have a bit more money, time available to commute and need for land Hudson QC would fit the bill.

If you have even more time and want to live in Ontario, but work in Montreal, South Lancaster, Ont...has some lovely homes right on the St. Lawrence River (it is called Lake St. Francis there as it is so wide).

Remember, if you have kids, they will go to french school, unless you or your spouse went to english school in Canada. Or there is the private school route.

Despite all this, if moving to Kaybec (the only 3rd world nation with snow), its best to learn/speak french wherever possible. Otherwise, a lot will pass you by

There is lots of useful info, not just about Montreal but about the Province of Quebec, in the BE Wiki article that Neill wrote about Montreal.

clynnog, that is useful info. Would you consider adding it to the BE Wiki article on Montreal?

Indeed. Ladrador, the Yukon, Bob and that bit with the politically correct name better fit the description than does Quebec.

Rather amusingly, I have just been given PM grief by the OP. Apparently, "marde" doesn't register on the spell-checker. I have been told to check again.

Can't help but rire.

You've gotta love these BE language filters. Yesterday the system stopped me from using f e c k. Today it seems quite happy to allow the unfettered use of some serious gros mots.

I am moving to Cote St luc on the island of Montreal June 1 . It is also very English. Westmount( if you can afford it ) and Notre Dame de Grace are also very English. Granted they are central Montreal . The Eastern Townships are beautiful and mostly English( Lennoxville, Magog) about 1 hour from Montreal.

Both words are used. I believe the latter to be a runnier version of the former.

Thanks for all your suggestions guys, I'll now have to do a bit of internet research on the areas you mentioned and check out the Wiki thread.

French Schools aren't an issue for us luckily nor is daily commuting into Montreal, but we just didn't want to totally immerse ourselves into a 100% french language community nor for that matter into the reverse!

Cheers
Ray
