I suspect there are dire and dirty places, where criminality is a way of life, in the UK that would make Canada seem an acceptable alternative but I've never been to Liverpool so I'll have take people's word for it.

Liverpool isn't bad, I lived there once. I have seen worse places in Manchester. Parts of SE London, around Lewisham and Bermondsey, are worse still, but nothing compares to what I have seen in Glasgow - specifically the Gorbals and Moss End. :blink:

Liverpool is a very friendly city. Always quite a lot going on and its not stuck up and pretentious like Manchester has become in recent years.
