Hi all we have only just starting to fill our forms in and we only have two questions of you all

1 Was it worth it?

2 Given the choice would you do it again?

I am very keen but my wife is alittle scared of leaving everyone behind. So I thought i would ask it cant work out every time some people must wish they never made the move.

I am only 10 months 'down the line', so I am still a newbie to the waiting game.

Is it worth it? The more I think about this question, the more I have to say "I don't know."

Since 'IT' hasn't happened yet, it's kind of hard to say. It is certainly frustrating. It definitely makes you question your motives and your reasons for wanting to do it. It really forces you to look at what you have already, and what you will be giving up.

It makes you wonder if you are as good as you perhaps thought you were. It fills you full of doubts and fears. In short, you may end up with a terminal case of the screaming sh*ts!! :scared:


Would I do it again?

Yes!! Yes!! Yes!!

Can't remember who said it, but to paraphrase...."the life unexamined is the life not lived". Sounds like emigration to me !

Do it, take a risk, roll the dice, live the life, sit up, take a breath, look around and say je ne regret rien. Or something like that.

Would I do it again.

Probably not. As in move to another country to live. It's a very expensive thing to do, the stress is horrendous, and I'm having such a good life here most of the time that I couldn't imagine moving anywhere else right now.

Other people's experiences may differ. But even on a bad day, I've never considered going home.

Could I answer your question with a question?

What do you hope to get out of it, i.e., why are you moving?

When you get answers here saying yes it was worth it or no it was not, they are based upon peoples unique expectations.

You will see many people here are very happy they made the move and you will see many who are not and they all have their own reasons for giving their answers.

I have lived in quite a few places now and am about to move again and I love it. I know many people who in more challenging circumstances than mine have made the move and I have nothing but respect for the choices they made. I cannot imagine how difficult and nerve wracking it is to uproot everything for a new life when you have a wife and kids to consider, my hat off to all of those who fall into this category.

I have said this in another post and sorry for repeating myself but your answer to your own question will depend on your approach to your new life. Make the most of all of the opportunities that will be presented to you; integrate with your chosen community (do not live on the fringes) and adapt to the new culture, do not expect it to adapt to you. Finally, persevere and all of the things that really stressed you when you first arrived will be taken in your stride after you have been here for a while.

Was it worth it? Absolutely and without a shred of doubt.

I wish you the very best of luck and a life of adventure and enjoyment. The toughest part is getting on the plane.

Well to answer your first question was it worth it..

As a life experiences yes… for my career yes …. Financially probably not

And for you second question would you do it again

Well I changed job and moved back to the UK again for my career and then jumped back to Canada a couple of years later again as a career move so yes I would….

But then again I did it all on work visa's and somebody else paid for the move too......

No. I lost everything(career, money, marriage). I still have the most important things in my life (my kids). It's not all bad.

2 Given the choice would you do it again?

No. It was a disaster from which I have never really recovered financially and was career suicide for me as a woman with foreign credentials.
