Re: All our worldly goods....
Thanks so much for the positives :)
I hadn't really been in our living room since they moved the furniture, but when I went in this morning the walls were covered in green and blue from the packing tape. I spent most of today repainting the living room and Dining room. The staircase is just a mess!!! I talked to the people at Anglo Pacific and they say that the staircase will be repaired and the carpet will be replaced before we leave on the 16th May (we will see) he said the claims forms were on there way to me...The pictures?? Well all he could say was we will have to see when they get to Calgary as they are not in a shared container so not at their depot. They are at the docks as we speak. He was a very pleasant man and very apologetic, but that wasn't what I wanted to hear!! The pictures were bought in memory of my Mum when she died 5 years ago, she was quite an artist and their sentiment far out ways the financial value (although the financial value is quite high). Apparently the crates which were built for them were not too big, far from it...fact is they should have been packed in a certain way which would have packed the crate out. When I sat down and thought of what happened I felt quite cross ...yesterday I was calmer...when the guys said 'The staircase just needs repainting' I didn't really take it in after everything else...but today I think ...THANKS, it didn't need it before you came along!! Anglo Pacific said they should have repaired the damage before they left, not left us with dozens of 2 foot scrapes on our walls and plaster missing. Our house is only a year old and so in great repair. We chose Anglo Pacific because the sales guy, Paul seemed very clued up and knowledgable and the company seemed to have lots of experience shipping to Canada, plus my Step sister used them 3 years ago for her move to Ontario....I think it depends on the team you get to pack for you, it seems a bit hit and miss, but I called Paul the sales guy today and guess what?? He didn't bother to return my call. I left a very polite message. Would we recommend them...No, we wouldn't, well not the team we had anyway. Not wanting to worry anyone who has booked them, just keep a close eye. Julie |
Re: All our worldly goods....
Hi julie, sorry about that. Had the same experienced with a company I used in Holland. The first time we used them I was so impressed that I told everyone about them 2 yrs later I couldn't believe my eyes at what the boys put me through. So in summary just pray for a group that are dedicated and know what they are doing.

Re: All our worldly goods....
just a quick update!
Our container arrived today...our furniture is in good form..but sadly my paintings are damaged..really upset about this. But in truth I expected it :( On an up note its the frames which are basically ruined and not the artwork itself so they can of course be reframed. But of course we have the long claims thing with Anglo Pacific to deal with. Williams were fab on this end..from Calgary much better than our Uk experience! |

.....just left in a 20 foot container for it's long trip to Calgary  We were filled with confidence with our shipping company before they came to pack our things. I am not 100% sure right now....They seemed very good and efficient as they packed and things were packed well...then they ripped a hole in one of my bedroom carpets it's only a year old), severely marked every wall of my staircase and landing and knocked a piece of plaster out of my staircase :( I have already complained and taken pictures and put the complaint in writing). Accidents happen so I am not overly stressed but lets see how quickly they put things right, that for me is what matters now and in all fairness we have big solid wood furniture and a 'dog' leg staircase .
I am a bit nervous about my paintings though. They are pretty valuable and were meant to go in individual purpose built crates but when the crates arrived they were way too big and so they have been packed up together  We have them insured, but thats not really the point, they mean so much to me and some are irreplacable. Suddenly, I feel quite nervous about the next time we see our belongings:ohmy: So here I am, not even a chair to sit at my desk on (the desk is about the only piece of furniture that is going to Canada with us!)...it's quite daunting when I look around..not sure how to feel... bit sad to be leaving but it's almost time to leave this life behind and get on with our new one, our adventure, our dream.....and so the adventure begins And on that positive note :D .....I had best get cleaning up....at least I still have a hoover!!:D Plus my knees are killing me kneeling on this floor!! Have a good day everyone  Julie |
