All our worldly goods....
.....just left in a 20 foot container for it's long trip to Calgary  We were filled with confidence with our shipping company before they came to pack our things. I am not 100% sure right now....They seemed very good and efficient as they packed and things were packed well...then they ripped a hole in one of my bedroom carpets it's only a year old), severely marked every wall of my staircase and landing and knocked a piece of plaster out of my staircase :( I have already complained and taken pictures and put the complaint in writing). Accidents happen so I am not overly stressed but lets see how quickly they put things right, that for me is what matters now and in all fairness we have big solid wood furniture and a 'dog' leg staircase .
I am a bit nervous about my paintings though. They are pretty valuable and were meant to go in individual purpose built crates but when the crates arrived they were way too big and so they have been packed up together  We have them insured, but thats not really the point, they mean so much to me and some are irreplacable. Suddenly, I feel quite nervous about the next time we see our belongings:ohmy: So here I am, not even a chair to sit at my desk on (the desk is about the only piece of furniture that is going to Canada with us!)...it's quite daunting when I look around..not sure how to feel... bit sad to be leaving but it's almost time to leave this life behind and get on with our new one, our adventure, our dream.....and so the adventure begins And on that positive note :D .....I had best get cleaning up....at least I still have a hoover!!:D Plus my knees are killing me kneeling on this floor!! Have a good day everyone  Julie |

Who did you use for the removals?

Re: All our worldly goods....
I remember this day well !!
Funny, weird, echo-ey (sp), emotional, exciting, nervous - but so much bloody cleaning to do - and then to have to try and squeeze all that last minute stuff into the remaining suitcases  I would say "enjoy" but there will be many conflicting emotions right now - so enjoy the bits you can and focus on a lovely, sunny future with many paintings intact  |
Re: All our worldly goods....
Anglo Pacific...I can't complain about thier packing etc and the carpet was an accident but nonetheless a pain as is the staircase, but if they put it right quickly and efficiently I don't mind. As I have said our furniture is very large, heavy solid wood and the stairs has 3 turns in it.
Thanks for your kind words Ann. Yes, lots of emotions whirling around for now...none more than the pain in my knees for kneeling back down here!! I can't believe how much dust was behind my wardrobes  |

Re: All our worldly goods....
I also remember this time of my life - but it now seems a life time ago when it is was only the end of July 07
Very emotional and you feel like you are camping indoors but you know that your time has finally come and I think that is what keeps you going  I remember when I finally had finished the final clean of my house and I just sat in the empty lounge on top of my 5 suitcases and balled my eyes out - was it fear ?? No just the immense feeling of everything that was happening and the relief that I was finally on my way to my new life. You too will look back at this time cooking you fajitas etc with 2 pans and a blunt knife and laugh so hard about it  And about the removals - I did a total self pack of a 4 bedroom house and all that was broken was a mug handle and the surround off a mirror which I have now mended  so I wouldnt worry for sure. Good luck with the rest of the journey Gaynor x |
