Alberta vs Ontario
We live in Ontario Toronto with the possibility of moving to Alberta Calgary.
Would like to hear from anyone that has lived in both and views on what they like about each province and why? Thanks |
Re: Alberta vs Ontario
Alberta is further away from Quebec:ohmy:
This could be interesting GTA centre of the universe v Calgary rednecks. |

Re: Alberta vs Ontario
I've also lived in both albeit many years ago. Have to say I had a bit chuckle at Former Lancs' post - being a bit of a Redneck myself, I'd agree Toronto is the centre of the universe - in the minds of many Torontonians....as for Quebec, well I'll just leave that one alone;). IMO Mike pretty much summed up both cities. I lived in Calgary twice and was happy there, left the first time only because I didn't have much of a choice (that's another story), left the second time in a flood of tears and second (turned out justified) thoughts to move to Toronto. When I left TO 11 years later, such was my haste that I was 50 miles north of the city in Barrie before I realized I hadn't even looked back.

However overall Calgary wins, less snow, less taxes, less strikes, the traffic isn't so bad. Houses are generally a bit larger. Plus Alberta isn't swimming in debt like Ontario. The main advantage I think Toronto has is that it is closer to other places, Calgary is pretty isolated. |
Re: Alberta vs Ontario
Mind you, when the rest of the world decides it doesn't want our oil, then Toronto (or anywhere else, for that matter) will look pretty good.

Re: Alberta vs Ontario
OH wants to move to Ontario. There are pros and cons about both I suppose. The winters are LOOOONG in Albertaland.

Re: Alberta vs Ontario
I don't think anywhere in Canada has a particularly pleasant winter, if winter scares you, don't move to Canada.
The usual argument is to move to BC, well it's very wet and windy on the coast or Vancouver Island during the winter, far more so than most European countries and yes it's warmer in the Okanogan Valley but it's not exactly warm during the winter and it is heavily overcast. Toronto is warmer, but you have lake effect snow. Supposedly one day the Turks & Caicos Islands might become a Canadian territory. If they do I guarantee you that very year they will be hit by the mother of all hurricanes. :p |
Re: Alberta vs Ontario
Who said winter scares us? We just know that after 7 winters, we don't want to be doing 8 months of snow for the rest of our lives.

Re: Alberta vs Ontario
I have been here for 14 years, and I have never had to endure eight months of snow. Methinks the lady doth exaggerate.
