Hi There,
I've been looking at Job Postings in Alberta, in some of the Ad's it states "Class three license required" or "Class five license required". I have a full UK car and motorcycle license, what would I get in return if I was to swap it over?
Do the classes run from 1-5 ?
Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom
I cant help with the different lasses but i do know that your licence will be converted into a class 5 licence which is car only. Unfortunately your motorbike licence doesn't transfer.

edit: just found this to explain the classes http://www.servicealberta.gov.ab.ca/Drivers_Licence.cfm

5 is car 6 is motorbike. I got a new person that double checked with a senior person about what I would keep and lose - I was a lucky bunny!

Class 5 covers you for a car or light truck up to 2 tons, automatic or standard (manual) transmission. Class three refers to "tandem axle" trucks, usually over 3 tons, and sometimes require an additional "air brake" (3a) endorsement, especially if it is over 5 tons. Here in Saskatchewan, they used to do you a straight swap, but when my brother-in-law immigrated here in 1999, they made him take a test. The class 6 (motor cycle) cannot be granted here, and you will have to take a test to get this licence.
Hope this helps, as Alberta and Saskatchewan are almost identical in their licencing requirements.

Ok class 1 covers you for everthing its like your big HGV, you might have to do a yearly medical.Class 2 is your big bus licence, class 3 is your tandem axle trucks, like gravel trucks. Class 4 is small buses, class 5 normal car, class 6 motorcycle, class 7 learner, class 8 is i/d only!
If you have airbrakes then you need to have a Q endorsement. I hope this helps!
