Default Ait and Iec visa

Im an electrician and im moving to alberta in May on the iec visa. As far as I know you need to apply for the AIT wether your on the iec visa or looking for an lmo. Is this true? Im asking as I have been talking to a few electricians working in calgary who have not applied for the ait. Anyone else know if you can get work without having the ait? Also does anyone know of anyone who got rejected. I have the 9000 hours required for the ait but im short on the 72 months so I dont know if my hours and trade cert will be enough. Cheers!
