Hi Debbie,

We found them really good , no probs at all with Air Transat or Thomas Cook Airlines.

Other people have had problems, but I think in this day and age problems could occur with any airline, if it is a good price I would go for it:thumbsup:

I have flown with Air transit and had no problems. They are just as good as most other airlines. Enjoy your flight!!

We booked Air Transat from Manchester for November ! Have flown with them before and apart from my panic attacks (dont ask) they were fine !

They are a charter airline not scheduled. Seem to have more problems than the likes of BA, but cost less. From my own experience (one and only time, walking is a better option), long delays and extended stopovers.

They have been known to run out of fuel too, but then so have Air Canada.

Air Transat are ok, baggage allowance is stingy, meals so so, but you pay for what you get.
They are a Canadian charter airline. They fly Airbus 310 and 330 aircraft.

If it ain't Boeing I ain't going.

And I can say that convincingly after an Airbus 330 flight on Lufthansa.

Would not agree there, the Airbus is a superior aircraft to Boeing.

Personally I always fly BA (who mostly fly Boeing), collect the club miles and then get additional flights or upgrades.

Getting off topic here but still.

As smooth as the flight was, the overhead TV screens did not shake for a milli second the entire flight over. It was cramped for space (and I know airlines are responsible for their own configurations) and the seats were horrible. It was also very loud in comparison to 777 and even 747.

Even the crappy old MD11 on KLM was a better flight. (I will avoid the MD80 like the plague).

On a different note. Are you a member of flyertalk.net

Re: Air Transit

I'd certainly go for it if they're offering a good price. They're certainly no worse than anyone else, with the exception of BA, from my experience. Whichever airline you fly with you can have problems. Last time I flew Air Canada thinking that it would be better than Charter airlines, but was totally wrong - we spent the whole flight in darkness, due to a blown fuse!

In my experience, the only airline you need to be wary of on the UK-Calgary route is Thomas Cook. Even they are OK, as long as you make sure that you don't have a window seat and preferably have an aisle seat!

it's like chosing between plague and cholera. It all depends on what you want. I know that with the amount of luggage I carry flying low cost airlines like Air Transat I will end up paying more at the end of the day when the excess fees are added up than I would flying with Air Canada, KLM, BA or anyone else. I had 20 kilo carry on luggage in two bags and maxed out on 23kilo per checked suitcase (2 cases) on my way out. With a low cost airline I would have been very restricted on allowance and stung bad on the excess and a more expensive travel.

Just noticed YYZlover has .net instead of .com - it's the flyertalk.com that is owned by Internet Brands, but I'm sure that's the one she meant ;)

Re: Air Transit

Used Air Transat a number of times now for the UK - Canada and visa versa trip. Seats are crap...little leg room and as uncomfortable as hell...but we get what we pay for I guess. Always try and get Thomas Cook flifgts if possible...seats are far superior...even change my plans a little to fly them rather than Transat! Can't speak for Thomas Cooks other flights...as in other than trans atlantic....

Hi

We have just come back from a trip to Calgary 20/07/08 till 03/08/08 we went for two weeks we went with Air Transat and they were very good.

I would recommend them. I think they are all the same company, Tompson, Canadian Affair and Air Transat. We had great leg room, my husband it 6 foot 7 and even he didn't have a problem. Even the food wasn't too bad, and I hate plane food.

I'm not sure though if they change the planes when winter kicks in due to the winter sports holiday makers. Cram them all in with less leg room.

Hope this helps.

Do you know what type of aircraft you were on ? I think Transat mostly use Airbus 310 and 330 ?

Transat only have A310s and A330s. They used to have L1011 tristars (my mum had a "wonderful" experience flying across the atlantic on one of those!!)

Re: Air Transit

I fly air transat all the time and they are fine the only problem I have found and its a big problem for me was on my last flight in June to the UK and on return they served a really hot spicy curry for the in flight meal the smell was just dreadful and it was not suitable for children.

rgilbert Aug 7th 2008 8:48 am

Re: Air Transit

I found AirTransat much more comfortable than zoom. We have just flown Zoom in the premium economy and the seat was the most uncomfortable I have ever used on a plane. Last year flew with AirTransat and found the flight to be a good experience.

We have travelled several times to Canada, Thomas Cook and Air transat (Canadain Affair) were rubbish, poor luggage allowance, poor service, no food or drinks...We would always recommend Air canada, great luggage allowance fab hand luggage allowance, great service....in my view you get what you pay for!

Debbie wanted direct flights from Manchester ! I dont think Air Canada do them ? Also i thought 20kgs of luggage and 5kgs of hand luggage was the norm for economy class ?
How come you got no food or drinks:confused: i thought on long haul you always get a meal ? (anyone else had no food on Transat?)

There is an offer with flyzoom at the moment. Children Free, except taxes and fuel.
The promotional code is children2008 all you have to do is book before 31st August.

I have put all the details on a thread.

We flew with canadian affair earlier this month, had no problems with staff etc but found the food YUK. We requested children's meals which I think were worse. Take your own food and all would be ok.....did on return journey. Also the only drinks that are free is water. We had to pay for all other drinks including soft.
Hope this helps

hi debbie

You will be fine by Air Transat ...actually I chose the Thomas Cook planes as they were direct flights to Calgary from London. It was a difference of £350 between Air Transat and BA or Air Canada.
I flew from London to Calgary on 17.07.08 and was back in London on 01.08.08. Flights were OK but we brought our sarnies with us after we were cleared for security. For the price it is worth it and i wont mind flying with them again.
FYI i noticed that the price for a one way London-Calgary was about £140 compared with over £800 with BA or Air Canada in Oct 08.
