I'm confused over a couple of things - can anyone help?
Air Transat's website says that it doesn't transport pets from the UK (although I know from other people's experiences that it does) - and when you try to call their info number its just a round the houses system!
I'm trying to book our cat in with them and I spoke to a cargo company someone else posted that charges £250 which is almost double what Air Transat says it costs on their site!
Can anyone set me straight!
Thanks,
Emily

I just followed the link to Air Transat that is in the BE Wiki article on pet transportation. The Air Transat web page on pets and service animals states:
I take that to mean that animals are allowed on flights that originate from the UK.
For anyone else who is interested in transporting pets, I'll just mention that Biiiiink added heaps more information to the Wiki page yesterday.
No animals of any kind are accepted on flights going to or connecting in the United Kingdom.

I am sure that there was something about this about 4-6 months ago as people had booked animals on flights and then all of a sudden they refused to take them - thicko here tho cant remember the name of the thread.

There was this one - but despite the title there doesn't seem to be anything concrete in it about AT cancelling pets. I wondered if it actually referred to Air Canada no longer taking pets as checked baggage?
When I made enquiries with AT a few years ago the first operator didn't have a clue and told me "no pets from the UK" was what it said in her handbook, I didn't like that answer so called back and got another who knew all about it, how many (5) pet booking they could take per craft, cost, etc.
Keep trying Emily - you might eventually get through to someone who knows!

Hmmm .......
In this thread, workmanlm2 said that Air Transat was going to discontinue transporting pets in November 2007. However, they apparently will continue to transport them until then. Workmanlm2 stated that, when he booked iin June 2007 for an August 2007 flight, Air Transat charged £112 for his cat.
In this thread dated July 2007, Robski said Air Canada charged £120 to take her cat as cargo from Heathrow to Vancouver.
Zoom transports pets, and several forum members have reported bringing their pets to Canada with Zoom.

Hello,
I noticed that my name was mentioned in one of the posts, so I figured I might as well re-iterate my experience.
I made my booking on June 7th, and they definately are taking my cat on my August flight from London Gatwick to Toronto. I've received a confirmation for her a couple weeks ago. To make my booking I rang the Canadian telephone booking system on 001 866 847 1112. I had a customer assistant named Zoe (x5291) who was very good. You have to book your flight before booking your cats but they should check the animal space availability (max of 5 animals per plane) before you book. Then she passed me over to a dedicated phoneline for animal booking, but I don't know that number.
My cat cost £112.50 (roughly) and she is going 'excess baggage'.
They are stopping taking pets as excess baggage as of November, but I am not sure if they are stopping taking pets all together. If you are flying soon, you should still be able to take your cat. Air Transat sells tickets for Thomas Cook and MyTravel flights as well as their own. These other two airlines definately don't take pets. It HAS to be an Air Transat flight, so make sure you customer service person is aware of this.
That was the situation as of June! Good Luck,
Laura
