Wait a few days for the full impact of the security alert to impact the airlines, and there will be all sorts of discounts available to get bums on seats!

You reckon? Prolly know better than I but I'd feared they might up the prices further to recoup the costs of refunding all those rich people that can afford to fly at peak times.

Interestingly it seems one of the cheapest ways to between the UK and Canada is to be a Canadian. Air Canada is constantly sending me e-mails that include flights from toronto - heathrow return for about £290 wheras they're selling for £550 from heathrow - toronto return.

Can't understand it myself -_-

They will but just not yet. For now, tickets are likely to be cheap because the airlines are committed to flying those schedules and will do what they have to to recoup any money they can.

I hate to think what the security surcharges are going to be in future.

I did it this year in Feb with AC, last minute, not cheap. Year before also in Feb, got a cheap deal with Lufthansa (YYZ-FRA-EDI). There were various options, we went for the codeshare Air Canada ones and saved a lot over booking the same flight directly with AC. Check out Lufthansa/BMI/any alliance partners, you might get a deal. I much prefer FRA to LHR anyway, can stock up on German books and chocolate

The problem I have with Frankfurt is that if you arrive on AC and leave on Lufthansa you have to reclaim your baggage and check it again. This shouldn't be the case because they're both part of the Star Alliance but the AC ground staff at YYZ don't seem to know that.
