I would prefer BC, but to be honest am looking all over (except quebec). I have friends in Toronto who are also passing my resume around.

I was offered a couple of jobs in the $70k a year range working in Vancouver...too bad I don't live there. Actually I better just say that I wasn't offered them as such, some bloke who read my CV rom Monster called me and asked me to come in for an interview so I grilled him on wages first

It's a bit of a fantasy though, living on IT wages in Vancouver. I know several people who've tried it out there and who have come back when the money ran out. I do know of a Unix administrator who's managed several years there but his wife is quite highly paid and can subsidize him. Vancouver's expensive and computing is no longer a highly paid trade.

I reckon I could survive on $70k, my wife would also be looking for work, and we have no kids, so would only need to rent a pretty small apartment. Plus its more than I earn in the UK

70k would be ok with no children. My eldest daughter will make a bit over 60 this year (first year nurse, also still working on and off as a lifeguard), she shares a nice semi in the Beach with one room mate. She doesn't have a car but flies frequently, eats out most of the time, does the bar scene. In Toronto I think 70k is enough to support a single person who has no mortgage in quite high style, or a couple living quietly. It's not much for any sort of family.

What happens when DBD gets to 10,000? Will the mysql db explode?

Live in smaller spaces, commute farther, breed less, rent rather than own, etc. etc. To me, Vancouver doesn't make much sense as a destination but then, to me, cheapness is primarily what Canada offers.

What does everyone in London or New York or Tokyo or San Francisco or Paris or anywhere expensive do?
