What I am getting at there are bugs etc everywhere...what you gonna do! Wouldn't put me off moving to Canada based on the fact there are mosquitoes!

I would move to australia in a flash and nearly everything their can kill you LOL

I spent 7 years in Toronto and the weather never bothered me. I got into winter sports such as ice skating, ice hockey (became a huge Maple Leafs fan), skiing and even a stint at curling! It's not Mont Tremblant or Whistler but the skiing was good enough for me as I never really got much beyond beginner level. As someone else said, the key thing is to get out and about and not spend time indoors moaning about the weather. I didn't find the winters to be too bad at all. I loved the clear blue skies and the hot summers. It certainly beat grey skies and drizzle in the UK.

Toronto itself was great - lots to do. We were also within striking distance of other eastern cities in the US and Canada - and also Niagara Falls. Thought nothing of taking the train or driving to Montreal. Also visited the Thousand Islands region, Ottawa and Quebec City - and drove into upstate New York and Vermont. Could also hop on a plane for a weekend in New York City.

All sounds great to me, thats another reason we are looking at Toronto (apart from it prob being one of the hottest places in canada) there is a lot to do and see whicg is fairly close by or a short flight away. Also that it is a shorter flight to the if we need to go home for any reason or for family to come out.

I suppose to some extent it depends where you go, in the concretised GTA it wont be as bad. Doing anything outside in the summer where I am involves a smothering of DEET, and after about 5 years the ones that get through no longer leave a huge golfball sized welt. I still steer clear of the woods though if I can. Im just saying, you should experience both the heat and humidity (High 30s-40s humidex) and blackflies and mozzies if you can. Heat I like, humidity is the worst as it just makes doing anything so much effort.

Here its just the bears and motorists that can kill you I guess, if you dont count west nile.

Mosquito, blackfly, deerfly, horsefly. The blackfly are a kind of supermidgie who take chunks of your skin with them when they bite.

You need to look at whether or not your qualifications transfer to Canada or whether or not you will need to take exams and or get a license to work here. You generally need a license to fart in Ontario.

Thanks for the advice iaink, I spent 14 months between south east asia and Australia........if I can handle the aussie outback with the heat and bugs then Canada at 30-40s is a breeze in my eyes

You don't get any of them in Toronto. Raccoons, rabid packs of raccoons, are the worst wildlife problem.

I will look into this but as I am in the office now and not in the field then it should be ok.....I know a guy who was a field engineer from Uk and got a job in Canada ok, just needed some extra training. Will look into it all though....Thanks

I agree that there is alot to see and do from Toronto and whilst in tourist mode I have done much of it.

Though you will not get as many bugs in the city, if you go camping and the like in the surrounding area, you will see and feel them all.

Racoons can be quite annoying tipping over your trash and making a mess. Also there is some giant bug that makes alot of noise in the evening.

Some people love the GTA and some hate it, which you will be is still to be determined.

I have never skied in Scotland. I appreciate that it is possible to do so. Europe is but a short flight away:p
