Hi
Me, hubbie and daughter are wanting to emigrate to canada and I have had an email today off a company in Edmonton who are willing to sponsor my husband and get us over there. I havent really looked into this much as didnt think would actually get anyone offering to do it and was just planning on applying for permanent residency and getting over there... eventually! Anyway I was wondering if there was anyone who has already gone through this process? How long it took?? Do we still apply for permanent residence in the normal way?? etc.... Any advice would be most welcome????
Thanks in advance
Sarah

My hubby and I are just at the tail end (hopefully LOL) of this process and it's not too bad. The company will need to apply to the Human Resources Dept. of Canada (HRDC) to get approval and prove that they have tried o get a Canadian and can't (i.e. just advertised in as many places as poss) and that the job is on the NOC list (National Occupations List). That will take about 8 -16 weeks depending on their backlog and then when you get approval you apply for a work permit which allows your hubby to work there and you can apply on the same form for a spousal permit which lets you work anywhere pretty much, unless you want to work in medicine or with children then you have to get police clearance and a medical which takes longer.
We are just waiting for our permit and then we are off in November if they let us is!!
Check out http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/index.html it will give you lts of info - I have loads of sites but not on this comp so if you want more just let me know. Plus we're also going to Edmonton so if I can help with that side of info too just holler.
Go for it- you can apply for your PR once you have the WP and you are way ahead of the game. There are never any guarantees but if you have a job and are living in Canada it goes a long way.
Good luck!!

Hi,
Our experience was slightly different to Ki in that we transferred with a company that my husband worked for in the UK. On our forms the lawyer ticked the box that said the company had not applied to HR Canada (??) and certainly the process only took from interview in March to landing here on 17th June!! I may be wrong but I think we applied under a specialist worker so the company declared that no-one in Canada had the same specialist knowledge?? As it turned out we ended up being issued a work permit at the airport when we arrived clutching a letter from the lawyer and one from the company.
We are here under my husbands 3 year work permit and now in the process of applying for PR .......... what I would say is that if you do come then check on the Canadian immigration website and get all your documents for your PR before you come. We are currently chasing universities for transcripts and it is a nightmare!!
Lots and lots of luck,
Tara

I was wondering if the company could sponsor you under the Provincial Nominee programme which would mean you get your PR a bit quicker, rather than coming on a work permit and applying for PR under the skilled worker's class. Check out the CIC site as listed above, but search for Provincial Nominee Program(me?).

My husband has just telephoned the company and spoken to them direct they said they are happy to sponsor us but are not sure of the process and that he thinks we now need to sort all the paperwork and put the company down as a sponsor. Is this correct???

And yes, we do have to sell our house and yes it is a relative pain in the butt but I am keeping fingers crossed for a success!!

I would get the company to go through the PNP route. As Morwenna said all the info is on the web site. With all the relevant forms. The company sponsoring you will have to apply direct to them (not you). I think its about $500 for them to look through your application and make a decision. I would invest in a good fax machine, to get all your info over to them, (our application was all done by fax).
We went down this route after being refused by HRSDC. PNP overruled their decision and we were here on a work permit within 4 months, our PR ran along side of this and we were granted PR within 8 months into our work permit. You will also be given a open work permit allowing you to work anywhere.
